Suspension Lift help

About a year ago, on my 2012 Trail, without KDSS, I had the full Toytec Boss lift kit installed, along with the "superflex" rear springs, with the front coilovers set to 2.5 for a nice even stance. I had the lift kit installed first and drove it around town for a week or so with the BFG Rugged Terrain P rated tires. Then I had installed a set of Cooper AT3 275/70/17s, C rated. One thing I can possibly add here is that while the lift kit added significant stiffness to the ride, going from the P rated tires to the C rated also added quite a bit of additional stiffness, and bounce, to the ride too. The coilovers in front and heavier rear springs are probably 75 percent of the new firmer ride and the heavier tires the other 25 percent. I run the Coopers at around 38-40 PSI but you can see that after 5-6k miles the outside edge of the tread is worn a bit. I find this a reasonable compromise between a stiffer ride and tire wear. In the future, since my driving is also 95 percent on road, I think the next tires will be P rated again, whatever I can find that has a pretty aggressive tread.

On the positive side, I don't have the "nose dive" when I brake and I am pretty sure whatever front or rear bumpers or accessories I add it will handle the weight. Also, once I got used to it, it handles really well. Overall, I am glad I went the route I did. I hope this helps.

Thanks, man! Yes that helps a lot for sure, thanks for taking the time to respond with this valuable information, I appreciate it..

Have you checked out the Falken wildpeaks AT3, the have them in a P rated tire and even a 285 P which is awesome. I thought i read somewhere that they are coming out with a 275 soon in the same tire.

Hey! I was/am in the same situation! My 17' TRD KDSS has 2500 miles as well! I really didn't like the front rake either, mine felt lower than most (in my head) My major priority was comfort/daily driver/keep something close to stock as well. After confusing myself day after day with the forums, I ended up electing doing the 6112/5100 2.5/1.5 inch setup and after seeing the lift I'm glad I went with the 285 C rated Nitto Terra Grapplers - They are a good road tire that can go for the occasional trail when needed. They only weight 44 lbs as opposed to some of the other 285s out there. I would definitely recommend it. It drives very smooth, quiet and so far I haven't noticed any MPG loss. It's early so I will definitely keep an eye out on the MPG but I'm extremely happy with the choice, If you need help with anything PM me and I will help with everything I learned so far. Good luck on the setup!

Thank you, much appreciated. Sounds like a good setup, you don't think it rides like a tank, that is awesome. I like the nitto TG, the toyo open country AT and I am starting to like the Falken wildpeak AT3, to many darn choices, just want to make sure I do it right the first time if possible. LOL

Please keep us posted on the MPG as well. Have you noticed any loss in horsepower taking off or on the highway or anything like that, these trucks are already slow IMO.

My advise, stay away from those 10 ply KO2's everyone loves. Too heavy for this vehicle. The Toyo's might be too heavy also.

Here is my latest thoughts. Can some help out here?

I am thinking about a wheelers poly 1/4" top hat spacer with the fronts set to 1.75 giving me a lift of rougly 2-2.25 in front, I am also ordering a corfed rear spacer (custom 1.25) which should balance out to the difference of a 1.25 rake (like 1.75/1 combo). Has anyone did this setup? Is my logic solid here? Any adverse effects? colo4runner i think you have dabbled in this subject? What are your thoughts and experiences?

Honestly, at that point you would be better off just doing the 5100s @ 2.5 and doing a 1.5 spacer out back. It rides fine and looks great. I even took out the front sway bar, and that makes the front WAY smoother (let's front corners be "independent"), but has a little more body roll. Here is my 2014 with that setup:
