Suspension Mechanic in Santa Cruz

Hey guys, I have not been on here in a while but once again the time as come where I need to dip into the eternal wisdom that is T4R.org!

So here is the situation, I am a student at UC Santa Cruz and my driver's side lower ball joint has kindly died on me. I am up on campus and was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good shop in Santa Cruz that has some experience working on our machines that I could get it towed to. Also, I have a 1997 4WD SR5. Any help is greatly appreciated! Let me know what you guys think!

Don't know anything about the area, but you could go to the campus maintainence facility and ask the guys in there who they might recommend

It's an extremely simple job on our trucks, any competent shop should be able to do it easily, just make sure you get an OEM part.

Like others have said, it's a simple procedure and any shop should be able to do it. I would go with OEM for sure, the aftermarket LBJ's are garbage. Lloyds by downtown does good work and close to you. Also Santa Cruz Auto does good work and is off Soquel Ave.

What is messed up on it?

OEM...both LBJs, and get the OEM bolts as well.

Hey Sean, I think his balljoint is in pretty bad shape or it already failed since he mentioned towing.

Now is the time to learn it yourself. It's a simple job, there are write ups, just need basic hand tools.

Socket set, blue loktite, torque wrench. You can buy those parts for less then a shop will charge you to do the work. Especially when your looking at towing or remote mechanical jobs. Might save your ass one day knowing how to turn a wrench when someone isn't around.
