Suspension question (I know, y'all fixen' to shoot me)

Ok, I get it, there's 647 different threads, with 9 thousand different combinations.
Honestly have I read them all, no, have I tried to read a bunch YES.
Between my shit short term memory (due to a TBI *thanks deployment*) and probably my undiagnosed ADD I have no clue what the hell it all means. I am mechanically inclined, I have tools, I enjoy wrenching, but I've never been more lost with all this.
I'm looking for an affordable suspension kit to replace the leaking XREAS in my 04 v8 SE

Want something comfortable and affordable. I found a guy with fox 2.5 with the external resi Close by for 500$ or 600$ just for the coilovers. But then I saw online something about needing UCA's and then the back isn't solved. Some one just please point me in the direction of a turn key alll in the box kit and where to buy it. Or "buy the front here, and this piece from here" so I can just move on.

Or a solid customer service rep I can talk to on the phone who won't try to bend me over

I have an '03 V8 Ltd. which had xreas originally. Couple years ago I replaced it with Bilstein 4600 and FJ coils and am very satisfied with the ride, although I am strictly street. I recently installed the Daystar 1" level kit and replaced the top hats. I use the no spring compressor method and it is very easy.

If I were to do it all over again I would go with Bilstein 5100's for their adjustability so a level kit would not be necessary, or maybe the Eibach Pro's which are also adjustable.

Hope this helps a little. There are many spring combo's to choose from and that is confusing.

I've got an Eibach Pro Truck suspension sitting in my basement for install next weekend. If you do some googling there are places that have that setup in your price range.

That gets you eibach springs, as well as their version of the Bilstein 5100, which is valve a littler differently supposedly.

End result is 2.75" lift up front, 1"in the rear. Shouldn't need new UCA's.

Check out the “X-REAS delete...” post linked in my sig. The setup I ended up with is affordable and rocks both on and off the pavement. Not suggesting the same exact gear necessarily, just the same approach.

I am very happy with my setup

Front Struts: Bilstein 5100 (lowest perch setting)

Front Springs: Toytec (eibach) 2.5" spring

Rear Shocks: Bilstein 5100

Rear spring: stock spring with Daystar 2" lift spacer



Parts sourced from Amazon : shocks abd struts as a kit for $369. Daystar spacer kit $80

Parts sources from toytec.com springs $169

Also needed front upper strut mounts sourced locally for $29/ea

I have a 2004 Sport V8. I just finished upgrading the suspension. Been off-road a few times and it handles so much better without it handling poorly on-road.

Eliminated the XREAS.
Front;
Bilstein 6112’s on the 3rd/middle setting.
JBA UCA’s.
CVJ CV axles with the red inner boots
Jersybuilt hubs
SS brake lines
Speedbleeders
Rebuilt factory calipers
New rotors

Rear;
Bilstein 5160’s
Toyota FJ rear springs
SS brake lines
Speedbleeders
Rebuilt factory calipers
New rotors

I would like to get new from the and rear calipers. Something nicer than oem and painted.

You have to ask yourself the main question, what do you use your Runner for? Then decide what sort of setup will work for your needs and you plan to keep for a long time.

Agreed! You’re going to have to ask yourself this question over and over when modifying your 4Runner... and probably just as important is the question of budget. How much do you want to spend for everything?

I’ve had the 5100’s on my Tacoma I had and for what I did/needed them for it was a great set up. This time around my budget and ambitions were bigger so I went with icons and I couldn’t be happier.
