Suspension Questions

Hey there I'm new here and am seeking the wisdom of the internet for my life (usually the best place for that...) I have a suspension problem. I live in Nicaragua (parts are expensive and not alot is available as far as upgrades) The 4Runner is 20 years old and the shocks are blown in the back, springs are sagging worse than a cool kid in 1997. My town has cobblestone streets that are rough no matter the suspension, I commute to a farm 45 min each way on mountain roads that are in pretty good shape, then turn down a dirt/gravel/ large rock road. Im looking to upgrade the suspension and would love thoughts on something that rides pretty smooth, soaks up small to medium bumps with out adding too much body roll. Im good with lifting a bit but really this is mild offroading daily with mostly on "road" life. I know I can find OME here and maybe Dobinsons? Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello, I’m new to the forum as well. I had really bad body roll in the rear. Even after replacing the shocks and putting brand new springs on. I put Firestone Ride-rite 4135 air helper spring kit. Aired them up and my problem is gone. I can also carry extra weight in the rear without sagging. Bought them on amazon and installed them myself. 1hr install for me.

That sounds like it would be nice, I think im needing a full suspension replacement, and if that doesnt work then it looks like id be waiting to return to the states for a bit to maybe find other solutions! thanks for the idea!

i cant speak much to suspension as my rear had the components that are in it when i got it but i did add the Panhard bar correction kit from [MENTION=28464]eimkeith[/MENTION] and it made a world of different in the roll and sloppiness of the backend. If lifted or going to lift i would say this is a must after feeling it for myself

If you live on cobbles, I would stay away from any springs that are stiffer than stock. A lot of people mention that off-road springs don't handle washboards very well at all, which would be very similar to cobbles. OEM Toyota parts will probably be your best bet, it lasts a long time and is more comfortable than other brands. Look into the 99 tall springs if you want a little bit of lift.
