I already went through that thread pretty thoroughly, but I just went through it again. I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger on anything because I want a smooth ride and 3" lift (I changed my mind from the 'no lift' idea) and the thread says coilovers... Thats pretty damn expensive and I'm not sure if I'm ready to make that kind of a purchase. Decisions decisions...:der:

Toytec ultimate lift kit, 3" lift, with diff drop. My cv boots ripped shortly after install. It was time to replace them anyway. I love the lift, a little stiff but that's the way it should be. Lower the psi in the tires will give you a softer ride.

That looks sick. I would really love to get that, but it's pretty spendy hwell:. Personally, I can't do the stiff ride yet because it's my DD and the roads where I live really suck. I need a smoother ride for the family. When we get a different DD, this will be a badass offroader.

My buddy runs ultimate kit. He complains how stiff it is compared to my setup. It's enough where I would not run toytec front coilovers unless running bumper winch to soften it up.

Its not a super stiff ride. He just complains about it sometimes once he hits the trail. Like wash board and small bumps. He lowered front to around 2.5" lift and said it helped.

I had that problem with my old Tacoma when I installed the OME 3" lift with Normal Valving. it got to be really annoying. I want to stay away from that with my next lift. I think the soft valving would be better but am not sure what springs to get.

Yeah, its stiff, lol. For the first couple thousand miles. It softens up. Also depends on how much air you put in your tires. I plan on getting front bumper and back. That weight will help the ride

This setup soaks up the bumps and is not stiff at all

Fyi in this pic i have 100 lbs of stuff in the rear. Unloaded ive got .75 higher in the back.

...One question: do they get sloppy before a catastrophic failure, or can they just fail? I've read about this a lot when I had my Tacoma and every one said they get sloppy first, which mine never did, but I only had that truck for 43k miles (187k to 230k), not sure if they had been previously replaced...

No sloppiness, no warning, no weird noises, just complete and utter failure.

Wow, that is awesome of you to tell me! I checked and the boot cover on the lbj is cracked! Also, just found out that my CVs need to be replaced! On the bright side, I finally decided on a lift and installed it the day before yesterday (will post pics when done with the joints...)

Ya... Mine look very similar to that but there's no wiggle. Either way, not driving it until all joints are replaced.

Thanks!!! I do wish the exterior paint was in a bit better shape but these 3ed gens are rare to come by. By far the funnest Toyota I've ever owned!!!
