I went with the 265/70-17's... I have the FJ coils, DS spacers and bought 5100's all the way around. I couldn't be happier with the ride quality and the actual 3" lift up front with the FJ coils. Total cost for parts was close to $500.00. I tried to fit the 285's but couldn't clear the upper control arms totally without buying wheel spacers.
I went with the 265/70's and drove it around. It wasn't what I had my heart set on, but very happy. There was a little loss in power. I'm glad I went with the 265's over the 285's. If the tire shop had 275's available, I probably would have went that route. The other night I was on the highway in heavy rain. The pavement was a little rutted from heavy truckers. If I had the 285's there would have been more hydro planing and movement from the tires hunting out of the ruts.
If money wasn't an issue in my case, I'd add wheel spacers, body lift and throw 285's on. The drawback in my experience is that I don't want to lose that much mileage and power in the V6. I'm happy and so is the wife that I didn't spend the extra money. 275's would have been nice, but not nice enough to warrant an extra $200.00.
