SUV pulls left when I hit my brakes.

I recently changed out my brake pads and passenger side rotor on my 98 4-Runner. Driver side rotor seemed like it was still fine so I did not replace it. Now every time I hit the brakes my SUV pulls left. Brakes work great. Any suggestions on what the problem could be or what I could do to correct the issue?

Does it pull to the right, or to the left?

It says it does both.

The general rule would be to replace both sides of brakes/calipers. Although you replaced the passenger side, the driver side might have more bite or grip which may be causing you to pull.

I didn't replace the calipers. I replaced the pads in both sides and the rotor on the passenger side.

I meant pads type calipers for some reason. But still only replacing one rotor could be your problem as well.

When performing work, its always best to perform it on both sides, so when referring to maintenance, you can assume both sides are done, instead of wondering which one was replaced.

Pulling to one side during braking is a sign of warped rotors or bad brake pads, or both. My best suggestion is to go get an identical rotor to your new passenger side rotor, and replace the drivers side. Get brake parts cleaner and give everything a good rinse. You should be good to go.

However, the fact that it pulls to the left means the right side is having problems, or it is having an easier time slowing your truck down than the Left. Also, keep in mind that your newer rotor is thicker, so it takes less braking power to apply the pads to the rotors, BUT, only on one side on your truck, because you have an older rotor. This could be the reason your pulling.

But your problem is brake related. Pulling while braking is a common symptom of brake issues.

You should aways do brake part replacement in pairs. Your driver side rotor being used probaby has more imperfections and a worn surface that allows the pad to grab it better. New brake parts in general have a break in period before the operate at their best.

I would replace the old rotor even though it "looks" okay

If all the above solutions don't work then you're driver side caliper is probably starting to stick.

Also, did you do anything that could have introduced air into the lines?

see how it goes. Since the right side is new, the pads have probably not bedded into the rotor yet. Essentially, driver's side is broken in while the passenger side isn't. Driver's side currently brakes better.
