Sway-A-Way Reviews and Feedback??

I am trying to decide between an OME lift and a Sway-A-Way lift.
I have found plenty of threads discussing the OMEs, but very little on Sway-A-Ways.
I've searched here, Yotatech and Toyota120. Very little info on these coil-overs.
Anyone have links to info that I just can't seem to find?

SAW's are no different from King, Donahoe, Camburg and All Pro. Therefore if you want coilovers then any of the above mentioned will be suitable for your needs.

Only problem is that this only resolves the front and you still have to source your own rear suspension (most likely OME's).

So if you're going to get OME's on the rear, you might as well just go OME's up front unless you think it's that important that you need coilovers up front.

CO's will give you a better ride but it comes at a significant cost. For the average user I believe that CO's are an overkill. The price really is a deal breaker.

OME's are 700-800 (complete).
CO's are almost double (complete).

So pick your poison, OME's or CO's with OME's are great so you can't go wrong.

Good luck

Here is an SAW install thread with initial driving impressions and some good pics.

Here is a link to wheelers offroad. There are rear coils and shocks available to match the front co's

With OME you choose shocks and matching springs, depending on how much lift and how firm of a ride you want.

Ummmm, last time I checked SAW (sway-away) makes a rear shock/ spring combo for 4th gens in addition to the front coil overs, so you could go with an all around SAW setup. At least a few members have this setup.

Thanks for the correction, saw does have a rear setup.

Regardless unless you plan to do a lot of high speed stuff I'd recommend you just go with OME's as it's the best overall setup that's priced reasonable for the vast majority. Those with OME's will not complain about the ride at all.

Whatever you do, I'd say spacers are your very last option. I mean if you're gonna spend some money might as well spend it a bit more on something worth while.

Good luck

Thanks for the info.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a set of OMEs which I think would be just fine for me. I don't really do any hard core off-roading, but I do get out into some rough stuff at times.
Then I started reading about Sway-A-Way/Camburg set-ups and how they are so much better in all areas.
If I get the OMEs with the fronts already assembled, I'm looking at about 1K. For a few hundred more, I could get a real quality set-up in the Sway-A-Way/Camburg line. Not that the OMEs are not quality. Plus, it's a big advantage to be able to level out the vehicle by turning a ring.
Still thinking about it, that the reason I was looking for the feedback threads.

I wouldn't say you're getting a higher quality setup because you're getting a coilover. The biggest difference is how it's configured. You have to keep in mind that these coilovers you're looking at are geared specifically towards high speed applications so they'll work well in those conditions but may not be effective in slow speed conditions. OME's on the other hand are configured for expedition abuse (long range of varying condition).

So the bottom line is buy the right equipment for the kind of terrain you will be subject to. If you will encounter any kind of higher speed trails then I highly recommend you get coilovers because they're built for it. OME's can handle the abuse too but it's nice to know that you have the setup that's built for that kind of terrain.

Remember that the coilover is just an adjustable version of a standard shock and coil. once set I doubt that you'll ever adjust them.

Hope this all helps. Just trying to give you some insight as I fear that people are quickly dismissing specific equipment just because it's not the most expensive item available. Remember that just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's gonna be the best for your application. If you have an opportunity to drive a comparable 4runner with SAW's and OME's, that'll be your ticket on which one you want. Don't be clouded by the "cool bling" factor because that should be the last thing on your mind!

good luck! :)

Good Times - I appreciate your insight and advice.
I will probably go over to Slee in the next couple of days and talk to them.
I've read a number of posts where members have had to OMEs for awhile and then went to either SAWs or DRs. Must be a reason.
I can't count the number of times I've purchased something only to change to something else after a short time. Probably not telling you anything considering the highly modified 4R you put together.
I just want to do it right the first time and doing it right just may mean going with the OME's. That's what I'm trying to determine.

I would love to drive an OME susp. versus a SAW or DR susp., just don't have that opportunity.

Something I didn't note earlier, the CO's life is usually 2-3 depending on how abusive you are to your components. Over time they will need to be rebuilt (they're just not built to last forever) whereas the OME's will last much longer due to the simpler design (it's just a factory swap).

As worries about owners upgrading constantly, I see it happen but it's far few and between. I see more people upgrading spacers to OME or CO's fyi.

Keep in mind that in snow country, salt is plentiful and I know the CO's will rust over time whereas the OME's won't. Unfortunately there's no way a CO can "not rust" as the rings will wear and the rust will appear. Something you need to think about too.

gotta love confusion eh :D

o my 4runner was never meant to be stock anyway. helps to have friends in high places that bring down the cost significantly :)

Ahhh, confusion..the spice of life...............errrr somethin like that.
I didn't realize COs had a very limited life. That's definitely something to think about.
Thanks again for your input.

What about Sonoran Steel he has really good lift kits for a decent price and seems to be really knowledgeable, He really doesn't like OME because its not a true lift kit.... They are springs that are used on a Ausi 4x4

Sonoran Steel

Steve does not cater to the 4th gen crowd.

sorry

uh what? I know the kits come from OZ but they dont come STOCK on OZ yotas either. im pretty sure they are REAL lift kits

OME's are a lift kit. basically any setup that gives you lift is considered a lift kit.

I would say OME's are as genuine as it gets. Too bad I'm not an OME rep cuz I've been pimpin them for some time now! Someone send me the bengies!

i wish they offered larger kits for our trucks and also OTHER accesories. im sure they have some other wizardry they could share

Don't forget that you really can do a lot with a stock 4runner so hence the reason why they don't support a larger lift. For the most part the lift is there just to support the added weight but that's about it. Down there they're not into the "BIG LIFT" because they need the vehicle to travel vast distances across country.

FYI, ARB does have a front bumper for the 4runner so that's something :)

true! but i like the shrock better i think!
Yeah the 4Runner doesnt really NEED much realistically, i mean, the truck is nicely capable. the lift helps fulfill where she is lacking, in ground clearance via larger tires. Good luck on the the rebuild Lance, ive been watching the thread! Aaaaand back to topic......
