I have an '00 SR5, with a 3" Emu lift and 35" sneakers. I blew an end link in the rear (Moogs), and I have a set of Performance Suspension bushings to put on the rear sway as it is, so I figured here was my excuse to get it done. But now I'm faced with a couple questions:
First, should it stay or should it go? The rear sway bar, that is. I plan to get back into four wheeling, but not without a full-sized spare (which I don't have) - so at the moment, this truck is just a driver. I think the sways help keep the roll controlled, but will limit articulation on the trail. So ... are quick disconnects the way to go? What are the drawbacks?
Second - assuming I keep the rear sway, in whatever form - is there a magic formula to correctly set end link length? I figure I don't want to maintain the OEM size, since the frame is that much further from the axle, so keeping the stock length is going to index the sway in relation to the axle - putting more stress on the end links. But I don't want to make them too much longer, otherwise the sway will be in the way of the leading arm when the suspension compresses. So what's a good length for the rear end link in a lifted truck, or a good way to determine it?
If I do retain regular (not QD) end links, I'm planning to assemble my own w/ Perf. Susp. bushings and eye bolts, as outlined in other threads on here and Toyota120. Any comments for/against that?
re: taking it apart ... I didn't have grind any end links bits off, but the four bolts that hold the bar itself? ugh. One came out ok. One sheered off after 1/2 a turn. The other two are stripped. Always something fun.
