So the salvage yard steering rack went in OK AND THE DEAD SPOT IS GONE! But now I'm waiting for the bill from my Local Guy to get the tie rods set right and steering wheel centered. I measured and counted threads and all the rest - and even though it drove straight by the time they got the wheel centered they were "too short on one side and too long on the other" for safety.
The '95 end links I got from Rock were not going to work and in desperation I went to the dealer. I have to say he put forth a superhuman effort and dragged in boxes of links - the ones that looked the best were from a Sequoia/Tundra - get this - at $116 each! I bought them - only to find later that the rinky-dink Adv Auto near home had a PAIR - in stock - Moog with grease fittings - for $38 each. The bagful of links and cushions is going back to the dealer. He'll still get some business from me - the years of getting in and out have wasted the drivers-side door weatherstrip so he'll get that and also a fuel filter.
