sweet flashlight mount install!

so today i had an idea. I wanted a maglight mounted in my truck, i didn't want to have to tear the entire rear interior apart to do it, and i didn't want to mount it on any of the access panel doors. I think it came out perfect, i'll probably put a first aid kit on the opposite side...

the first step is to pull this knob and remove these covers to access the three 10mm bolts...

be careful to pop the one over the seat belt from the side closest to the door, it is hinged (very cheaply) and if you don't you'll break it like i did!

now you will see the 3 bolts...

now you can pop the rear mirror out (from the top) and work on popping the clips to loosen this panel from the top and around toward the seatbelt...

dont be too aggressive, you only want to be able to get behind this panel to put nuts on the mounting bolts for these clips...

these are 1 3/4" stainless steel clips made by perko. These will scratch your maglight a little, but i chose them anyway because i didn't want to have to ever replace a broken plastic clip...

put everything back together and viola!

Nice. I mounted mine on the cover to the jack/tools compartment so i can get the clips out of the way if need be, by removing the cover.

Yikes. Totally agree. Sorry to say it but that thing mounted like that is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'd seriously take it down.
 
That's a pretty kool idea! I might of put it somewhere lower just in case I gotta slam on my brakes so it wont come flying at me ha props!
 
Sorry to rain on your parade. I just wanted to point out the safety aspect of such a heavy object mounted that high...

On a different note, do you have two different seat fabrics in your back row? Your last picture looks like there are different fabrics.
 
you guys are silly, these stainless clips are uber heavy duty, you could get into a header at 70mph and that light wouldn't budge and for another thing, "IF" the light did come out (wich would take an act of GOD) it can't come foreward, it could only come out toward the trunk-space because the angle of the trim faces it at a diaganal towards the rear of the vehichle...it would have to go directly thru the forward side of the mounts to come toward the driver

nope...its the same, for some reason the middle seat fabric doesnt wrap over the top like the passenger seats...from what ive seen in pics mines not the only one

...and that my friend is fine, you gotta love America.

i looked at all possible mounting locations and have no fear of it coming out of my mount and hitting somebody...i didnt use cheapo plastic mounts and any accident that would threaten to break that light loose would have to be so damn bad that anything in the cargo area PERIOD would threaten to kill everybody inside...that being said i like it being mounted out-of-the-way, and i feel safer with it where it is, than i would having it mounted in the way, where anything could knock it out, in some cheap plasic clips mounted on that janky panel door...no offense inteded zopperman

lol none taken, but that isn't going anywhere... it's probably been hit a dozen times by my floor jack rolling around back there and hasn't been knocked out...
 
Hmmm, your flashlight won't be flying at your head in a crash but your floor jack will?

Maglights fit nicely in the front door pocket.
 
Actually it wouldn't take and act of GOD to dislodge, just an act of physics. A fender bender in the parking lot? No probably not. A roll over accident? You betcha, that thing will likely become a mini wrecking ball. Now, granted, if you are involved in a roll-over, you have several issues already... But as a firefighter, I've responded to many a wreck. I'm constantly amazed at how well the passengers fare in bad wrecks after seeing the mangled mess we pull up at. So even though you might flip you Runner 5 times, all the $hit in your passenger compartment can really be an issue. Now seatbelt straps, that stuff will hold, guaranteed. The only seatbelt failures I've seen were the un-buckled ones. Just sayin' But you did make a slick mount.

this is my point exactly...the type of accident required to dislodge this light would make EVERYTHING inside just as likely to kill you...even if it was just laying inside your door pocket
