Sooooo... headlight build is done. To say I'm excited is an understatement.

What do you guys think? I went with the amber halos because I'm going to wire them in to come on same as my DRL/turn signals. Really looking forward to it!

Oh yes. Now this I like. Are these dual projectors? Big fan, they do great work don't they!

Hey swimmerdude1127,
Back on post #20 you've got a pic of the Weathertech cargo liner. It's hard to tell, but it looks like there is zero lip on the lift gate side of that liner. Is that the case?

I've been searching for pics of that liner installed in the 5th gen and that's the only one that comes close. I need a liner, but don't want to have the extra lip on the load side (like the Husky).

EDIT: Just saw the projector pics. Very, very nice. Particularly the blacked out look. Solid.

These Halos look legit. I really like the amber halos and how everything is matte black.

Putting this in my box of ideas to steal.

So are the halos different? or shrouds different?
Why the difference (other than placement) from inner to outer ?

looks great!

Halos and shrouds are both different because the high beam bulb housing can not take a full size shroud.

Both halos are amber but the Apollo 3 (the one that's notched) has the amber light partially blocked off to achieve that look.

I went with that look because I like it a lot and wanted something a little different than your standard HID look. I like how it turned out A LOT!

I won't see them in person until a week from now but the pics look great.

These are indeed dual projectors, giving me a quad HID setup. I'm going to run a cutoff switch into the cab to make it "legal" when I want to run fogs or what-not.

There's a very slight lip... maybe 1/4" sticking up on the edge. That WeatherTech cargo liner is probably one of my favorite, most useful additions if you want to keep your stuff fairly stock.

Good call, the one thing I regret about my retro is not going with dual projectors. Looks killer!

Masking and first coat on Plasti-dip. Pretty straightforward mod, although on my second coats I typically manage to mess up the spray amount and get not enough coverage or too much in some places. Overall it's looking fine though. I'll post more pics here once it finishes drying this evening.

I used a piece of folded up cardboard to hold the door handle out as if you were opening it, that way I could get max coverage.

Next "to do" for me...how tight did you mask off? or did you just get it "close enough" and end up peeling off the overspray?

Need to do this and the back...

Glad to see you went the professional route! Also glad you stayed away from
Oracle or AAC or Advanced Automotive Concepts. Those guys suck!

Do you have any, or could you take some, pictures up close, with lights off, so we can see the details? Would love to see the setup up close.

I masked off pretty tight and it worked out nicely. I used a piece of folded up cardboard to hold the door handle in the "open" position (keep your doors locked though) in order to get full coverage. I also taped underneath the door handle as much as possible. In hindsight I wish I would've provided more overspray protection because I have a few small dots on my driver side window... they'll easily come off, but it would have been easier up front to do that.

I did three coats on the handles and although it turned out pretty thick and nicely, I think I should have waited a little longer between coats. I have some random gray splotchy areas. I think these might be from being too hasty in the extra coats I did.

I may end up peeling off the affected door handles and re-doing it eventually, but for now it looks fine. Honestly I'm probably the only one that would notice because I have OCD about those kinds of things. But hey, being able to peel it off is one of the beauties of using plasti dip!

Yep, no problem. Like I mentioned earlier, I won't see them in person until Thanksgiving Day. If you click the linlk I posted, they have some good quality photos... probably better than any I could ever take! :D

Considering getting a Magnaflow... any input from anyone?

I see guys here running the 18" and the 22", anyone have a solid recommendation?

Part # for the 18: 12256
Part # for the 22: 12586

I was back and forth between these two as well.

I ended up going with the 12256. I'm happy with it BUT I do have a drone. Right at 2000 RPMs is when it starts. With the heavy wheels and tires I have, cruising on the highway between 65-70 puts me right about 2100 RPMs. Driving below that speed no drone, about 1800 RPMs. And sounds great when I'm on it. My tires are already loud, Trail Grapplers, so it fits right in.

If you want a quiet ride with some attitude at higher RPMs, 12586 is probably the way to go.

Cool. So I've done some research on the whole "drone" deal and what specifically people are talking about. Some say it is an actual RATTLING caused by reverberations in the exhaust system and the natural frequency of your ride, but in the context I understand people talk about here (not saying it's wrong), it's more of a steady-state noise when you reach a certain RPM (and possibly above).

I have an '05 Tacoma TRD OR with a AFE CAI and a catback exhaust system. At 2k+ RPMs I can distinguishably hear the exhaust sound, but it doesn't bother me at all... and in fact I like it. That being said, I have yet to drive that truck for 10 hours in a single day. But is this the drone you're talking about?

I think either way on the highway I'd be hearing it sporadically. With these new MT/R kevlars if there is even slight uphill and I'm doing about 74+mph, then I'm running about 3k RPMs on a downshift. I do intend to re-gear eventually, not sure when, but even then I'll be hitting HIGHER RPMs on the highway because the re-gear is focused on more low end torque, acceleration, and city speed MPGs.

Yes, exactly. And it does not bother me either but I always hear it. I thought I would get used to it and essentially tune it out but that has yet to happen... I've had the exhaust on for about a month now. Day 1 with the 12256 it was really loud, it has settled down since.

I'm with this guy. I'm also running the trail grapplers and they're not quiet. But, they're also not super swampers.

i have the 12586 and a TRD CAI. there's no drone to my ears. the only time you really hear it is under light acceleration, actually. and if you really lean into it the sound of the intake overshadows the exhaust.

i guess you can probably hear it on the road a bit more than from inside the cabin, though, because a friend was driving behind me recently and "thought there was something wrong" with my muffler. haha.

the real test? my wife has never noticed any difference. not. one. word. :trophy:

On my tacoma, I had a TRD CAI and wicked flow muffler. I loved the combo. It wasn't annoyingly loud, but when you asked her to go, she answered with a pretty rumble.
And less expensive because they aren't a main stream brand name

Thanks for chiming in. IMHO the muffler isn't too expensive of a mod and I don't mind paying a little more to get quality parts. Any idea how the general QC, CA, and warranty are with wicked flow?
