It’s called RidgeRunner by Detours of Maine. Great guy and the quality is amazing. There are few things that I wish he upgrades but so far, so good. I just wanted different option than getting a metal bumper when I don’t off road everyday. But having a tire carrier is so awesome because it was a ***** to change the tire when I went off roading and the spare tire would not come out under the car.

I used to have his Knuckle Bone mount. It was great, only thing that sucked was once I went 33's with an E load tire it was way to heavy for me to be lifting up and down on a constant basis. The new swing version he offers looks stout. A few weeks back, I got rear ended and the tire carrier took majority of the impact. The carrier was bent so I was going to upgrade to his swing out version.

Long story short, I didnt. I was getting ready to place my order, but I was hoping to make a few custom adjustments to it. Even though on his website, he mentions he can do custom to our needs, his responses through chat seemed very standoffish.

For me customer service is 50% of your business. There is no doubt, he makes a good product. But if your customer service is not up to par with your product, I just can't. But to each his own.


For those of you who do plan on purchasing any of his swing outs. This is what I did for a license plate.

Looks good but where do you mount license plate and lights with this setup?

Around 4 minutes and 20 seconds he shows two wholes predrilled into the rack and it also comes with a light.

Yes. Me too. I wish it was more offset to the passenger side but it actually looks good in person. It's because of the hitch mount system and the design brings the weight down straight towards the hitch to be stable. Very good quality.

The OEM camera is blocked but I found the solution and my rear camera is great. I will post it on the next video on my channel. Stay tuned.. =)

Like you mentioned, this is not Knuckle Bone set up. It's a swing away mount system...like Wilco. It feels so light to swing my tire back and forth.
Also, it comes with the license plate mount holes. I gotta wire the LED light though. =) Thanks

This is the first swing away tire solution that doesn't appear to harm departure angles that much which is really nice. Curious though, if you're running 33" tires why not just use the stock location? Dealing with a swing out is a pain.

Couple of reasons. One, I like the rear swing out tire carrier look. It gives aggressive offloading vehicles look.
Second, when I went off-roading and when I was stuck on the sand, my tire was low on air so I had to change the tire. It was near impossible to take out the spare tire from the bottom of the vehicle. The rear tire carrier makes it so much easier to replace the tire.
The tire carrier about was about $600, Powder coating and welding was $100, TRD RIM was $200 and KO2 Tire was $200. I think it was worth the money for me. =)

Received my Detours Offroad Swing-Away tire carrier. Did a quick mock installation for visuals. I agree with that there a few things that should have been re-designed better, especially how the stud bolts to mount your tire are loose. Try having to dismount/mount your 100lb wheel setup with those loose stud bolts on the trail. I'm going to tack weld the stud bolts and the tilted wheel mount before it goes to powder coating. Overall the build quality of it is good and I'm happy with it.

How did you tighten up wedge-lock? I'd need a find a really long 3/8" allen head to get it.

If you are running the Overland Equipped Rotopax ladder brackets this tire carrier will not work with the 4g Rotopax mounted.

I bought the wrench extension for the Allen key. It was only $6 at Home Depot. I mentioned it in the video and showed the extended Allen wrench setup.
