Swing-Out Tire Carrier Hitch Off-Road | Install & Review | 5th Gen 4Runn

I ordered mine in June. It's been 15 weeks now. I was told 10-12 weeks. Seller will not answer messenger or his website. I will have to file a Paypal dispute to get my money back. Sucks because I already purchased and installed a new back up camera.

Dispute it, cancel order and get the Rig'd instead. I had one and eventually sold it after I got a full rear bumper replacement but I got in on the early release edition version. Had a few issues and those guys responded immediately and gave me credit to their store for the mistake. Not only that but they are very active on social media and you can see what they're up to. Apparently they just moved into a new bigger shop and hired more hands since they are swamped with orders but well stocked.

I've filled out their website form (D of Maine) several times over the past 10 days and no response. Basically saying "let me place an order"...so sad they can't even respond with "be patient, it will take a while" or anything at all really... The website is beyond basic with no real product info, and how hard would it be to have an automated email response? I understand he is a one man shop, but he clearly needs some IT help...

Regardless of cost differences, my preference is to go with Maine to be as close as possible to the 4runner body. I don't need all the accessories that would make having a larger gap desirable.

You pretty much have to contact him on fb. He should reply in a day or two.

I ordered mine in March and got it about 6 months later . You’ll get it , just have to wait . Contact him through Facebook . He will respond in few days . His supply chain is running slow due to pandemic

Interesting.... I'm not clear on why you would not just use a 1UP RakAttach (Rated for 250lbs) and a hitch mount tire carrier. Seems it would be less of a struggle to pick up the tire with the hitch mount already attached to it and pop it in the swing out.

Moot point if you can't even order the product, get in contact with him or if there's a 12+ week lead time.

Too many moving parts in my opinion which would likely lead to wobbling when you're taking it off-road and it would probably stick out a great deal more than a dedicated swing out tire carrier.

I agree it would stick out quite a bit more. The Rig'd looks to be far better built than this one, but for $1200 aren't we getting into bumper territory? I didn't catch what this one costs.

Hrm, not sure if I'm missing something, but the majority of swing out bumpers are well over $2K and some easily push up towards $3K by the time you put on all the accessory carriers you'd want. $1200 to $1500 could probably get you into a plain rear bumper with no swing-outs.

I was lucky enough to get in on the Rig'd Ultraswing pre-orders, it was $825 w/ free shipping!!! There was a minor blemish due to shipping and Rig'd gave me the option of sending it back or getting a $150 credit. Again they have FANTASTIC customer service and always respond to emails. Although they are a small operation I think it works since they don't do the fabrication work or powder coating themselves. All they need to do is answer questions, take orders and push them out.

Most swing out bumpers are in that range. I think the cheapest you might get is a Shrockworks on a group buy which would be around $2200. Most dual swing-outs you can expect in the $2500-$3500+ range.

I placed my order on January 8th and I'm still waiting for mine to show up. The few times Mark did reply to my emails he mentioned having supply issues because of the pandemic as well. I thought it was just happening to me. At one point he did offer me a refund but I'm going to wait it out. I think his design is the best one available for 4runners.

because this setup doesn't get you a close tire mount to the bumper and the rear hatch. I have tried all the products (similar type) and this mount (Detours of Maine) mimics having the rear metal bumper look, which tire rests close to the body of 4Runner.

Stop whispering. You want a youtube channel then make the content. Don't be shy about making content.

Mark has been very responsive via Facebook messenger with my questions. There is definitely a long lead time but well worth the wait in my opinion. I love the design and price way more than other mnfrs. I plan on eventually adding the Rigid Backup Camera Relocation Kit & License Plate Light Kit. Links shown below.
