Switch Factory Head Units

I'm kind of new to the forum, I did some research and now i have just purchased an 08 Titanium, SR5 4WD, with the rear spoiler, and stereo controls on the steering wheel.

The one thing we are not happy with is the stereo. We would like the 6 disc changer and the xm option on it. I was wondering if anyone has ever switched the head unit with another factory one with those options or if its possible.

If it is possible how difficult is it?

My 08 SR5 came with the single CD. At purchase, I paid for the Toyota XM and when I went to have it installed, they could not as this unit was not compatible. I asked them to change out the head unit with another that was and after they talked to Toyota Technical folks, it was determined that the harness was different, so it would not be plug and play.

They ended up refunding the money I paid and then installing an aftermarket XM unit for free.

Yours may be different, but this is what I was told.

There has to be some way to change the harness or some type of adapter that we might be able to use?

I guess I might contact the Dealership and see if the one down here might have ever done this before?

If anyone else has any experience with this or ideas please let us know.

Install one of the Scion Head Unit . They are XM compatible. One of them has multi disc; but it can be damaged, if shipped improperly. Your factory unit has a plug in the back for a factory CD changer. This plug can also accept a USA Spec adapter that you can plug the XM into

6-CD in-dash receivers are notorious for breaking. Personally I'd pick up an aftermarket unit that you can connect your iPod to and control it through the stereo.

People on this board are fond of the Scion stereos... personally I think it's still factory and isn't a huge improvement (which is the purpose of upgrading right?). I also don't think it looks any better in the dash then many aftermarket radios.

The USA Spec piece gives you iPod and Aux input. You can also get the TOYSC1 and a SCC1 and get factory sirius (they'll be offering the exact same channels soon).
