Switch for my fog lights

I want to get an OEM Toyota switch, but from what I see I don't really care for it, it has such a nastalgic look. However, if I can't find what I have pictured in what one would call a brain I guess I will have to go with this.

In the meantime, here is what I pictured. A switch that fits in perfectly like that one, but half if not the entire switch glows/iluminates blue or purple (on or off doesn't matter) while also having that factory look to it.

The OEM switch that you can get now at the dealer has a little round amber light at the top instead of the square amber light that takes up half the switch. It does really look nice and compliments my dash well.

Or you could just use the Hella switch, it glows all green, but you have to drill one of your tab spots and put the switch through the hole and screw it on from the back.

Has anyone picked up OEM fog light switches for a 4th Gen? I just bought a set of Hella Black Magic driving lights to mount on my westin bar and I'd like to have a nice clean switch. Some other members have added the 3rd Gen switch to their 4th Gen, but I thought it would be much easier to punch out one of the precut openings, no?

Any experiences would be much appreciated.
 
They do NOT make a 4th gen fog light switch.
You can only get the 3rd gen switch, which doesnt look that bad.

But you need to wip out the dremel and grind down a little bit of the plastic on the 4th generation to get it to fit. In the end I replaced the lights with a PIAA's and stuck with their switch. The nice looking OEM switch I left in there even if I never find a use for it, it's no different than having one of those plugs. Personally I would like to have all those plugs swapped with switches and buttons.

I did not have to do this. I just pushed a little harder...

Hey RL...any idea how to buy from Painless? Stupid question, right? I do all my shopping online but I didn't see an order section.

On that note, does anyone know a site that has a seperate section for aftermarket switches like Painless? I really like the on/off/on amber switch RL posted, but I'm just curious about what else is out there

Also, though I'm in my second semester of electrical engineering, I don't know the practical differences between a switch with a single pole and one with a double pole...any ideas??

Summit Racing sells Painless stuff, just do a search for the part number you want on Summits site.

On the '04, the fog light switch is on the dimmer stock.

Painless doesn't sell to the public, so the Summit suggestion is a good one. I use the Painless site to see what is available, since they seem to supply many retailers.

The double throw option would allow you to operate two different things from one switch. For that you would need two sets of aux wiring.

I also found some very good looking wiring kits at www.suvlights.com

I am going to add Lightforce 170s to my 4Runner. I will use either the Painless or SuvLights wiring kit. I will probably connect the low amperage lead to the existing fog lamp hot wire. That way both sets of aux lights will operate at the same time. Maybe later I will extend the low amp wire into the 4Runner to a dash switch. First things first, I am going to a metal fabricator to create a light bar that connects thru the lower grill into a secure member of the bumper. Something small and specific to the Lightforce lights, as I do not care for huge bull bars. I can

So you guys are wanting two sets of fogs, stock and aftermarket? I just assumed you didn't have the stock fogs and/or you'd put the aftermarket fogs on the stock circuit.

I do have the stock fogs, but what I'm interested in doing is adding a set of PIAA driving lights on a Westin bar. I like RL's idea about wiring the lights to the Fogs but I think I'm going to make them selectable if possible.

RL...is it possible to just tap in to your existing wiring? Won't that overload/melt the stock components?

I think he meant to tap into the exising wiring to trigger the relay that controls the lights but power for the lights would (should) always come directly from the battery or power take-off.
 
The easy to wire aux lights is to use the stock fog lights to trigger the low amperage side of the relay. The high amperage power for the aux lights comes directly from the battery. Easy & safe.

At this point, I would like to have the stock fogs continue to light right in front of the 4Runner. The Lightforce lights will light the road beyond the area the fog lights cover.
 
To resurrect a super-old thread, can anyone out there shoot me the measurements of the 3rd gen switch? I'd like to see if it will fit the rectangular knock-out next to my dimmer switch.
