switching into 4H and 4L

THis is gonna sound very stupid but when you guys switch into 4H or 4L how do you guys do it. I usally just put the car in N and put the swithc to 4H...once i turn the switch can i go right away or do i have to wait. I usally wait a few seconds. And to get into 4l i stop put the car in neutral and and turn the switch and wait for the light to stop blinking. Now when getting out of both of those systems... What do you guys do because that is where i am having trouble. GEtting from 4H to 2H is taking a long time and sometime the lights blink for a while... i stop the car and switch over... should i be rolling or what... please help me

You can switch to 4HI while moving....no need to stop your 4Runner and put it in neutral.

To switch into 4L, you must stop and shift to neutral.

You can switch:

2wd ---> 4HI = up to 62 mph
4HI ----> 2wd = at any speed

4HI <---> 4LO = you must stop, shift to neutral

And if you don't have a load on the engine (meaning you're coasting), you can switch from 2H to 4H or 4H to 2H in about 4 seconds.
