..........So bascially, they have an ad for a product they don't even carry......

Isn't that illegal? When I worked at an electronics store (like 10 years ago) we at least had to have a floor model for that very reason.

I actually have to give them a little props for the service I experienced last night on a seperate issue regarding my towing parts. The guy I spoke with was pretty knowledgable and VERY eager to help. Just trying to present the flip side of my experience as well....not just the negative. cdoyle: I'm not implying that is what you are doing. Sucks you had an even worse experience than the rest of us that have posted so far. Your experience shows how important customer service is. They have probably lost a ton of money, just from you, and now after people reading this, even more money lost.

Ya the manager there was just worthless.

I even tried to call the store, and the manger was too busy to talk with me me about it. He had his salesperson do it for him. So everytime I had a question about why it couldn't be done, or why they didn't carry the bulbs in stock, she would put me on hold. Then come back and try to relay the info.

Then their corporate office should have got back with me when I filed a complaint via their website. Then get this, when I was on their website, one of those surveys things popup. So I fill that out too, still no response!!

Maybe other stores are better, but I'm done with them. There are other auto stores closer, that I can go too.

Dude, I'm going tomorrow to buy them! I just looked at my local ad online and it's 14.99 including a $5 rebate. I'll be buying the high beams and the fog lights

just be sure to take the ad with you, print it out and show them because it is supposedly a misprint

Yeah...I've had similar experiences with Pep Boys before. The only reason I went there this time was because of the sale. Doesn't it make you wonder why they only have 1 cashier ringing up 15 customers and 8 parts counter people helping 1 customer. It happens every time I go there. I went with a friend once to get her flat fixed and all the tire repair guys just stared at he back of her OX4 with confused looks...they had no idea how to get the spare tire out!

I went to Pepboys today, printed out the ad from the IN-Store special that was posted online... and i picked out the Silver Star 9005's and 9006's ... they listed for $39.99 but once i showed him the ad, he mentioned something about hearing about a misprint.. but guess it was something else... so he gave the lights to me at $19.99 each... walked away paying $42 for both! ... man, i love this forum... hago

You know it is kinda odd that they misprinted two seperate adds differently. Out here it was 25-5=20 and some of you have 20-5=15. Misprint two different ways?

same thing here!!! they scanned the lights, punched some price correction and the rebates!!! just installed them, too. the fog lights were kinda little bit hard to install . how bout you guys , how did you install your fog lights?

Don't forget to put a small amount of dielectric grease on the small metal terminals. It's cheap insurance and may even let your silverstars last longer.

Well... my local Pepboys must be the only one's not honoring the ad b/c I went today and the first thing I saw posted on the door was that there was a misprint in the ad for the SilverStars and they were sorry for the inconvinence but the selling price would remain $39.99 for the twin pack with an additional $5 mail in rebate.

Yeah man I got shot down yesterday too. Though the girl at the counter said I could go to Advanced Auto and get them for 29.99. I just passed on them since I didn't NEED to get them, just WANTed them.

I really think BBB needs to look into how many misprints pepboys has, I remember when I was in there trying to get my bulbs a year ago, they had all these other little notes posted by the resister informing customer of misprints.

I can see once in awhile, but they seem to have way too many.

That sucks guys. Before I re-entered pepboys I snapped some photos to prove the lack of posted correction, then I took a picture inside the store of a sign that said $10 per pair by mail. I didn't even have to dip into those to get the discount. I didn't feel like pushin it to get that $10 that the sign said instead of the $5 mailin it is going to be. Which kept mine at $20 after mailin, but I was happy enough with that.

If there were going to shoot me down, I was ready for war. But, based on others replies here, it sounds like corporate wouldn't have done a damn thing. We'll see if we actually get our mailin rebate.

Edit: It turns out that I'm a duma$$ too. I bought two 9005ST and one 9006ST! The opposite of what I needed. Errr! Have to go back there now. Update: I went back there and exchanged it.

.....For the 4Runner, the low beams and fog lights are 9006 and the high beams are 9005.....

What is that all about? I'm confused:

The 9006 and the 9005 are almost identical in shape, but the 9005 is 70watts compared to the 9006 which I think stock is 55.

So what you do is, on the 9005 there is an extra tab, that you just dremmel off. Once this tab is removed, it will fit into the 9006 location.

So for the same price you get a brighter bulb, I've had mine in there since December and seems to work pretty good.

I haven't had anyone flash their lights at me.

I've also looked stood infront of the truck, and didn't seem to be anymore glare then normal.

I've had mine in since last December, and haven't had any problems at all. When I first put them in, I turned them on for about an hour, and felt the harness to see if they might be too hot. They weren't even warm, I've also checked the reflected and don't see any signs of heat damage. So everything seems to be OK with this.

One note though, I didn't do this mod to the fogs. I was looking at the wires for these lights, and they seemed to be smaller, then the wire used for the low beam headlights.

So I wasn't quite sure if the wire could take the extra current draw. Maybe someone else might know, if the wire used on the foglights is indeed smaller the the wire used on the headlights? Strange since the both use a 9006 bulb, you would think they would use the same gauge wire, but it just looks smaller too me.
