Synthetic Vrs. Conventional in older 4runner

based on replies here & from tacoma owners over 10+ years, i would wager that most or at least a whole bunch of 4runner owners do use FULL synthetic oil & do NOT have leaks caused by the oil. but just the same, you dont know what people use either so why try & argue about it? start a poll for what kind of oil members here use in their 4runners & see what you get. there are also 2 or 3 examples on this new thread saying they use FULL synthetic at higher miles & have no leaks... how is that possible???

you still avoid the FACT that semi synthetic oil is barely 15-20% synthetic, its a marketing gimmick to charge more for oil because some people think its like half & half.

& now of all things, you think or imply that synthetic oil will cause a head gasket issue??? LMAO!!! please explain how that is even remotely possible??? or did you hear that from scotty kilmer??? you really need to step away from from the keyboard & stop spewing nonsense like this...

Iowa? Where is that?

Like I said before. Just get lost!

Multimillionaire from the Bahamas.

Surf the net. Lots of owners got oil leaks from using synthetic. Surf along!

so you edited your post to include that??? YOU ARE THE ONE WHO SAID THAT! & you still cant provide one shred of evidence to explain how its possible for synthetic oil to cause head gasket issues! says nothing ever?? every single thing i have posted in reply to your nonsense is a FACT... but we all know the facts hurt your feelings & you cant back up what you say, so you resort to calling members here names & bragging about your boat. look at the replies to your posts & the amount of likes you get... everyone is laughing AT you & not WITH you, but youre used to that huh??

nobody, not one single person on here cares about your alleged assets... you really need to stop with that crap, you are a joke no matter what you own. just a fool & his money...

get a job? you have no clue (as usual) about his employment. & the thread is NOT about conventional being superior to synthetic, its about you having leaks with both types of oil & not capable of finding or fixing your leak! do some research into synthetic einstein, it is superior in every single category. show us proof of where you come up with that crap? but we all know you cant & wont just like everything else you post on here, pure utter nonsense!

so im a jerk because i call out your BS & you cant back up anything you say with some facts or proof? yeah ok skippy! & now you are using "DB" that i called you in reply to your AH... real original there capt.

YOU are the only one freaking out here, every member replying to you has tried to help & been polite & mature at first & all you can do is post childish insults & name calling & keep repeating the same ridiculous things. apparently you arent capable of learning from your mistakes or others with much more experience & knowledge than you will ever have.. if anything, the mods here need to BAN you for your immature attitude & countless insults to other members on this forum! keep it up tough guy, we are all laughing at you & your delusional idiotic comments!

oh & by the way, its hilarious how you call us all "cheap" & brag about your ASSets, yet you drive a 16+ year old 4runner thats probably as basic & lame as they come!!! IF you had a fraction of what you claim, youd have a maxed out 4th gen with the best of the best mods or a brand new 5th or 6th gen TRD PRO 4runner or a lexus.... but no, the millionaire expert mechanic has a 16 year old lemon of a 4runner that has oil leaks & goes through 4 starters in 150k miles!!! go get em big spender!! LOL!

Wow! A lot to say by a real "jerk".
You mustknowalot!

easy enough, hate to say it as this is essentially some black mirror type stuff but thats how it is

Hey idiot. I never posted any pictures of myself. :trophy:
You stupid?

Well, no I'm not stupid.

But you DID post pictures of a commercial fishing boat you inferred was yours, along with two dudes on a dock, and another one of a guy holding a fish, any of which could have been you.

So pardon me if I ASSumed you posted a picture of yourself, rather than a picture of some random people which had no bearing on any of the discussions.

Why so contentious?

I’ve used synthetic blend for most of the life of my 2007 V6 4Runner that has 150K miles and will be switching to full synthetic in my next change. Fingers crossed for no leaks!

I tried synthetic blend and got some minor pan leaks, so went back to conventional. Tried full synthetic too.
Synthetic is overrated IMO. Good for new cars, but older car over 10 years old do just as well on conventional.

We've had three brand new cars in the last 15 years. Two Toyotas and one GMC Jimmy. We had a two year old Cadillac with the so called great "split block"! It leaked a little oil too.

Our 2005 4runner would leak on synthetic oil.
Hardly any (no leaks) with conventional, so I run conventional.
you should change the oil either way every 5000 miles IMO.
Oil gets dirty and properties deteriorate.

Scotty Kilmer says the same thing about synthetic in older cars. Watch out for the leaks!

I manange and maintain a fleet of 35 vehicles. We use amsoil signature series (fully synthetic) in all of our vehicles. We have used it for the last 13 years in multiple makes and models dating back 25 years. We get 350 to 400k out of motors with 0 compression issues. Our vehicles are sold due to body style changes being outdated, not mechanical issues. We have never had a leak issue in the over 60+ separate vehicles I have overseen . I haven't even had to change so much as a valve cover gasket in my fleet. But by all means keep on pushing this parotted hyperbole.

Pretty damning remarks about your Amsoil cult oil I'd say. Are you involved in Amsoil's "multi-level-marketing schemes"?

PS You need to check your spelling too. Your spelling of manange is incorrect. correct spelled is "manage".

I took the pictures at the weigh in station for the Marlin Marine Tournament (2001) in which my boat finished 2nd.

Contact Marlin Marin Nassau Bahamas if you don't believe me. The angler who caught the fish was Albert Barr. I needed a 4th angler so I asked Albert if he could come when he showed up for work at my house.

The mahi mahi weighted 71.1 pounds. We finished 2nd in the 2 day tournament. You can see the wire going to the official scale from the fish's tail.

If you got a bigger one you would like to post, I'd like to see it.

Sorry! I don't know what being "contentious" has to do with any of this.

Picture below is Bob - the builder of the Perfromance 42 (Miami Florida).

Spelunker writes: "I used synthetic once on my 03 and noticed a burning oil smell for a few weeks. I stick with conventional now."

Spelunker; "It's probably oil leaKING PAST THE ENGINE (valve cover or HG) SEALS. Synthetic seems "thinner" then the same viscosity conventional oil to me.

I think it is a marketing gimmick to get you to spend twice the $$$$ on your oil. I prefer conventional oil and change it every 5000 miles in my Toyota 4runner (purchased the 2005 4runner new).

I definitely have fewer "leaks" with the conventional. Just a drop or two now and then.

Check out the Heineken beer bottle next to the crawfish.

We have had our oil inspected. It's worth more becuase its rated at 25k miles and passes muster at that rating. I get it for wholesale at $9/qt so to say its 2 to three times as expensive as another synthetic is a lie.

If you want to go into cost compare apples to apples. It isn't cost per oil change... It's cost per mile given the duration of the oil change. Only then can you use cost as a part of this argument. If for example you change your oil at 5k and I change mine at 15k you're doing 3 oil changes to my 1. You have to factor those all in not just the cost of the initial one.

P. S. Your grammar is incorrect. "correct spelled is manage" should be "correctly spelled is manage".. But keep on trolling, your dim witted attempt is hilarious.

Who would use "your oil" in a Toyota car or truck if Toyota doesn't want it or approve it?

You got to be kidding.

Spelunker writes: "I used synthetic once on my 03 and noticed a burning oil smell for a few weeks. I stick with conventional now."

Just my opinion: synthetic is so much "thinner" it leaks past your gaskets. Never will I try synthetic again in my 2005 4runner - purchased new in 2005 / 150,000 miles. It gave me "OIL LEAKS" immediately. WOW! A great oil!

Switched back to conventional and the leaks stopped. I'll let you know when my 4runner passes 300,000 miles on conventional (and zero to one drop a month - in oil leaks).

Stick with Scotty Kilmer advice if you value your cars and trucks and their engines. scotty kilmer oil leak - Bing video

PS You can run whatever oil you want as far as I'm concerned. Synthetic is not for me, however!

It's pretty funny that you are counting drops at 150k and I have none in mine at 200k. Yet you keep using it as your evidence. I would suggest you probably have a plugged or semi plugged PCV. The new oil isn't the problem the gaskets and crank case pressure are. Why is your engine sensitive to this oil and mine (and the vast majority of commenters here) is not? I would suggest yours is more damaged than mine. IE dried out gaskets and a potential plugged PCV. Now ask yourself why is that? Could it be you ran conventional the entire life of your ownership? Pushed it past its capabilities?

The people whining about synthetic "causing leaks" always seem to have switched at high mileage.. Then blame the new oil. Yet they dont have the wherewithal to think maybe their engine has suffered from damage of the prior oil (or lack of maintenance) they were using. Then they make posts like yours with confirmation bias using cherry picked annecdotal "evidence" to back up their claim that synthetic must be bad.

Use whatever oil you HAVE to to keep YOUR rig from leaking. But don't tell others synthetic is bad, because the science says otherwise.

not even worth talking to this joker, he cant accept or understand simple mechanics of how or why an engine leaks & when you mention facts, his feelings get hurt!

he has "drops" from conventional which clearly indicates a problem with the gaskets or like you said the pcv. the drops are caused by the condition of the gaskets/pcv, of course synthetic can make that worse but he just cant grasp a simple concept like that. just let him live in his delusional little world, otherwise he will call you names & post a link to a kilmer video where in the end... HE STILL USES THE STP FULL SYNTETIC IN THAT TOYOTA!

FO Firebirdguy

Told you before don't post to me. Not interested in hearing from you.

You delf?

FO?? Awww, feelings hurt again? :hurt:

told you before i will post & call out your BS any time i choose. look at the views on this thread, over 4000 people have read it & not one single person agrees with your nonsense!!! take the hint buddy, you are a joke!

& what is a delf??? :lmao:
