i built a million and 1/2 dollar home in a gated community. Been in nassau 30 years. I arrived in nassau with under $10,000 in my pockets and a book i wrote on offshore tax havens and us tax law. Irs audited me 15 years ago. Pretty unnerving because they can put you out of business. I've seen them do it to others. One fled to canada, another who claimed to have a degree from a top ivy league university just disappeared after the irs arrived at his doors.
I used to fish a us navy autec buoy that was 18 miles offshore. If you got there at sunrise the dolpfin would usually be there meandering. The us navy has since moved that buoy 90 miles further south - too far to get to now. I've seen the navy tender (out of freshcreek) fishing there sometimes. The navy doesn't want you to know this. The name of their tender (for us subs) slips my mind right now.
Another boat - the 70 foot shogun - owned by a billionaire out of lyford cay (founder of a computer company in 1980s) would troll by the autec buoy and then go off. His crew stood at attention until a line went off, that the 'owner" would come out of the air-conditioned cabin and fight the fish.
One day, i followed them back to nassau. Getting behind their wake, and trying to pass, my 42 foot performance could barely get around them at 40 mph, and i almost buried my bow.
Nassau bahamas is known as one of the fishing capitals of the world.
The dolphin in the picture weighed 71.1 pounds and was caught by albert in the annual marlin marine tournament in the exuma sound on my boat. The big fish swam up to the boat after i shut off the engines while two other anglers were fighting other hooked up dolphin.
Albert (in the picture) dropped a squid on a #9 circle hook and the big mahi mahi took off 40 yards and did one big lazy leap.
I gaffed the fish caught on 50 pound test with 100 pound leader. I had to yell for assistance to pull it over the gunwhale.
The mahi-mahi won albert $500 at the tournament dinner on awards night.
