T/S MVCI Cable J2534: works w/ any windows OS (32-64 bit)

G'day team,

Last week I started a post in hopes of finding a "Techstream cable" that is compatible with my newest laptop (HP Notebook WIN-10 64). I've already purchased two techstream cables that were guaranteed to work by using; either an XP 32bit OS, or by downloading "Virtual XP mode" app!

Well folks, I believed their promissory pitch, and for that I got screwed (BIG TIME)! There were just too many problems with the install e.g., drivers were missing, rendering the J2534 cable useless. I even called on the experts here on forum, but at the end of the day, I didn't have a tool for trouble-shooting!

A few good, competent senior techs here tried to help, but I was skeptical of my own File opening/merging/renaming abilities, so I didn't try it after all I've been through in my past experience. One day shortly after that, I started thinking... I do that sometimes when in trouble lol!

...which lead me to ebay. I started looking for a Toyota Techstream MVCI tool that would be compatible with my WIN-10 64, and I found one! 'Techstream coding & diagnostics: Globle Techstream'! It arrived yesterday 6/6/'18. It came with an instructional video to help with the set-up.

It took me some time to get it right cuz the video moves really fast, so you need to STOP, very often to read the text and buttons that the instructor is clicking, and back it up occasionally and re-run the portions that were missed. I even had to un-install the techstream program about three times because I couldn't load the components correctly!

...but that was my fault for not being used to 'file coping/merging'! Anyway, I got it up and running: Here's a few pics of the package, cable, and screen below...

What, no credit? Lol also, this one supports live data which most other ones donts.

Im glad it works. I haven’t installed mine yet, probably just going to setup dedicated laptop with this program and my Ross-tech software. I don’t fully trust this ebay software with my personal files lol.

No, not as of yet! Actually, this is the first time that I've gotten this far with a J2534 cable cuz I couldn't set them up on any of my laptops!

Solved! I used version 12.*.* instead and do not have any issues going into live data. If anyone needs this version PM me and I’ll send u the download link. It’s from the same seller.

Finally had a chance to use my "Techstream MVCI Cable"!

G'day Toyota Tech Team!

I just wanted to inform you of some of my Techstream operations experience over the last couple of days! Like some of you, I've been spending most of my days going to my Niece's (4'th and 5'th grade) "Honor role Awards and Graduation ceremonies" during the day. So my personal projects would need to wait until the evening hours when I got home, relaxed some, and caught my second wind!

...now I've been wanting to customize some of the 'Dealership customizeable features' on my '12 4Runner LE that I've only read about but never had the wherewithal e.g., a Techstream J2534 diagnostic cable that would actually work on a windows 7-pro (64-bit) platform. To be honest with you, it took me a long time and several tries to properly install this new Global Techstream diagnostic cable.

The instructional video moves Really Fast, so to see the sequential order of the install process, you have to constantly STOP, back it up, and watch the install process over and over...! There were a few times that I thought that the configuration process was complete. So I went to the truck (at night in the dark) and attempted to run the program, but the notification system would sometimes say: "The program has stopped working, please restart the program and try again"!

...Fast fwd... Last night I was able to install the file components/drivers in the proper order and successfully ran the Techstream Customization tool. I changed the default 'Shift/Door-Lock' settings, the factory 'Transmitter Window Options' and the default 'Auto Light Sensor Sensitivity' features! This (IMHO) is just a great tool to have; especially if you hate going to the dealership when when you're OUT OF WARRANTY lol!

SIDE NOTE: This may have nothing to do with you, but if this ever happens to you; don't panic. I decided to wash my engine bay the other day; I do this every couple of years... I can't believe that my truck is six years old already! But I washed the engine, engine room, (A/C condenser, radiator with semi-High pressure wash hose), battery area...etc, and even the wheel-wells with the extra time that I had left-over when done with the engine bay.

It wasn't until 6 hours and about 35 miles later that I noticed the ABS and VSC notification lights (icons) were on. I wasn't sure if that was a result of the wash or my noodling around with the ECU customization over the last few days so I connected the cable back-up to the 'OBD-ll' and went to where the ERROR trouble codes are stored.

Well, I was glad to learn that there no errors being stored; which told me that the sensors in the CAN-bus system weren't malfunctioning, but one of 26 ecu's were generating these signals themselves, nothing wrong with the ABS or VSC (vehicle stability control) system. My point to you... If you see a notification icon in the instrument cluster just out of nowhere, don't panic. Disconnect the power from the ecu at fault.

If you don't know which ecu is at fault, go under the hood, open the main relay/Fusebox and pull out the 'Short-pin' at the top of the fuse panel. It's not a fuse but does look a lot like one. It's purpose; to deny the current drawing ECU's and processing components in the vehicle for when it's just sitting at the factory storage area (killing the battery) while waiting to be shipped to the dealerships in the USA! So you can just pull out the short pin and leave it out over night.

This process will RESET all of those ecu's back to their factory default settings and (usually) clear out the false codes that those electronic control units are 'Self-Generating' and feeding to the instrument cluster! I hope that NEVER happens to you but it does happen pretty often. The first time that it happened to me (Nov 2014) it continued malfunctioning for six months before I figured it out, and the worst thing about it was NOBODY; not even the Toyota dealerships or any independent local auto repair shops could accurately diagnose the problem unless I removed ALL of my electrical mods first.

My position: "I'm not removing a fuk'n thing before you confirm that, that's what is causing the problem... at that point I had thousands invested into my New 4Runner, and there was no way that I was striping my mods out... including my $700 dollar ("DC Power engineering 270-XP") alternator, which I knew had absolutely NOTHING to do with this new trouble; I did that homework/research 'BEFORE' buying and installing it! http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/172070-4runner-alternator-upgrade-gen-5-a.html ...hoping this will be helpful to someone reading this post, 'Best to you all',
