T/stat for a 3.4 What temp are you running

As stated, what temp rating are you running for the T/stat in your 3rd gen? I just got mine and the temp gauge runs in the lower half of the temp indicator and the cab is warm but I would not say it gets hot inside. The temp control on the heater is all the way to the right. I wonder if it would be in my best interest to get another T/stat.

use the CORRECT t-stat.
whether it has the correct one in there now, who knows. it was designed with a specific temp, use it. then correct any other problems it may have. like a clogged heater core.

I am trying to figure out if the one that is in my truck is supposed to be at what temp. The T4R gets warm and comfortable but I wonder if someone has put in a lower temp T/stat trying to get more performance.

Just replaced my T-Stat when the timing belt/wp was done. I run between 190-204 usually, and the heat eventually gets so hot I can't stand it and turn it to the white zone and crack a window. All the way in the red on the climate control might as well be satan breathing through the vents.

Stant and TRD both make a 170 thermostat. Those running forced induction find some benefit to the 170. The OEM thermostat is 180. I would avoid the 170 as it could prevent your engine from getting to optimal running temp and have a negative impact on MPG.

The factory gauge is notoriously inaccurate. Running a dedicated temp gauge or scangauge or other OBD reader would you give you a much more accurate idea of your temp.

As are most makes. I can't tell you how many people I've heard say that the gauge is 'right where it always is'. By the time it starts to raise above that normal spot, it's usually too late.

Interestingly, I was a little more conscientious about my temp. today. My UltraGauge was reading 204.8 steady essentially the entire trip. It never went above or below once it got there. I've seen the temp vary between hot and 'cold' with the fan coming on and off, but it wasn't even doing that.

I have to make an edit. I transposed my numbers, so I was actually at 208.4°F. On the way home from work, I was seeing the same temp. Hmmm...

Mine runs 185 to 190 with the factory toyota t-stat. Winter or summer doesn't change its operating temp.
