T1806 T1807 T1808 T1809 adding aux connectivity on top of ipod connection

Hey folks.
I got a T1806 with the SC12235 cable, working great on my ipod.
However, I wanted to take it one step further and add aux connectivity on the go.

So I thought of a simple solution: Buy an ipod female to 3.5mm male adapter. Searched around online, and by streak of luck I found one made by grom: IPD2JK. Attached is a pic of it. Item homepage

However, when I tried it out I ran into issues. Seems like if I connect this into any 3.5mm jack, the T1806 doesn't "detect" an ipod connectivity or AUX connection, so I can't select the AUX option on the headunit at all.

So I get the feeling it has to do with some kind of signal in the ipod/sc12235 wire that is supposed to let the headunit know that it is connected.

Any suggestions on how to get this ball rolling? I don't feel like buying a scion harness and do the honors of splicing everything.

Looks like it wasn't going to be that easy.

The AUX button won't be enabled on the HU, that's for sure. There's probably a way to trick the HU into think it's an iPod.

Have you tried the adapter with any other iPod accessories?

I purchased a cable on eBay to do the same thing last week.
it was listed inder Scion AUX In.
It cost $27.00 and would allow me to use both the Scion interface cable and the AUX IN cable seperately by switching from the headunit.

Yeah, it seems to work ok with the boise speakers made specifically as an ipod dock. I wonder how is it done to force ipod/aux connectivity..

Yeah, I saw that one too. Biggest problem I have is that you can only plug in one cable in the back of the HU, I went with the ipod cable instead thinking it would be a better buy.

on the T1806 headunit, the iPod interface cable (SC12235) connects to its dedicated socket, and the AUX IN connects to a different socket.
Therefore, either one can be selected by using the AUX button.
