The ONLY one that i would consider outside the GX is the Acura MDX because it is reliable, durable, does its crossover job very well, and has an awesome sound system (ELS)...probably easily rivaling the Mark Levinson in GX. In addition, with experience with Acura service near my house, I LOVE ACURA SERVICE!! Man, it is cheap! My wife's TSX just got 30k mile checkup...all for $38!! Lexus owners can only dream of having that cheap of a service, much less a 30k mile service!

By the way, the manufacturers' published numbers for the '09 SR5 4x4 V6 are 4,300 lbs. and 4,504-4,564 lbs. for the '09 Ridgelines. The Ridgelines are only 204-264 lbs. heavier -- my oversight.

if theyve been in business 25 years, they should know you dont compare a SUV to CUV. yeah they did that cause people shop across the same price range
i can tell you that the GX drives butter smooth and handles great for its stature, and i am used to driving an infiniti g35x which blows all those vehicles away in handling..
the 4.6 L is just right for the vehicle. Anything bigger and more weight goes to the front and it wouldnt drive as smooth.
there is obviously some personal attachment to your vehicles, as countless times many 4R owners here have bashed me on Objective facts and negatives about 4runner. Drive it for yourself and see before you criticize. The gx imho drives way better than the 4runner, and it should, otherwise why spend an extra 20K?

I test drove a GX460 last weekend. I did like it. It ran very similar to my V8 4runner. Call me old and cheap but now that I am retired and have the money I have a really hard time spending that kind of money on a vehicle regardless of what it is. I always pay cash for my vehicles. I just can not see how the average working class people can justify the expense of leasing or borrowing money for anything that depreciates like a car. I guess there are a lot of rich people out there yet.

I am confused...you have no respect for C&D...yet, you understand why they did the comparo....
There is nothing horribly wrong with the comparo because C&D compared vehicles that most consumers would shop at that price range. No need to lose respect for a magazine for doing that. They state the reasons why it did not win...and the reasons are fairly legitimate compared to the other vehicles.FourEyedWilly

Ah man you have me beat. I still have about 14 years and no I will not be 50 yet. I'm well on my way out, semi-retired at 35. I'm very lucky to work only because I love it. My father and uncle broke their asses until 65, I refuse.
To be fair to koz, not everyone buys their SUVs based on how fast it is or how good it is around corners. For example, if i were given a shopping spree of the SUVs included in this comparo, then i would have gotten the last place winner (GX460), even without blinking an eye. Why? Because i would have gotten it and trade it in for a 4runner Trail!Seriously, for me, the added poundage over a Limited 4runner is not a big deal, comparing to what you get in return: a true V8 (not that i need it, but still a v8 is a v8), super quiet cabin (hey, those sound deadeners do weigh a few lbs), super stereo system (Mark Levinson rocks!), and superb interior materials and fit & finish. The V8 along should explain most of the weight difference vs. a V6 4runner Limited.
The rest of the field is a joke to me. Land Rover LR4? Yeah, that's ok, i don't want to own the most UNreliable & UNdurable car in the world at this time. Audi? Nah, it is a Touareg on heels...and the Touareg ain't a reliable thing either. Audi's premium sound system (B&O) is not very good.

I said it in another post, CAR and Driver not TRUCK and Driver. I just recently moved from an 06 4R V8 to an 05 GX470. My opinion, I should have skipped the 4R and went right to the GX. Next vehicle will be the GX460. No doubt in my mind. No matter what BMW and Driver says, err Car and Driver. :hello:

we own all our cars. no debt except mortgage. The money is thrown away on any car you buy, its just the way it is.

How about this for objective facts. The 4.6 is a de-stroked 5.7 so both engines should weigh within a few pounds of each other.
Car and Driver's been around for something like 50 years.
I agree, and the "wouldn't drive as smooth" is moreso about the transmission, not as much the engine.
