Hey guys; I know this has been kind of a big topic, and I've done some searching on it. I'm a huge audio guy who's happy I don't have to listen to the awful noise that comes out of this system on a daily basis. I think my wife uses the radio for background noise, so she's not complaining, but OH BOY when I get into the drivers seat; it just about drives me nuts!

The dash speakers make every singer sound like they should've been in speech class! The lispyness hurts my ears.
I really don't wanna tear apart a new car; so what have you guys found tones down the crappyness of the system?

I've been tinkering and found I have to turn the Mid level to MAX; turn treble down to 1 away from lowest setting, and leave the Bass at Mid. I think the dash speakers are the culprits. I've heard blown out tweeters sound better than these.
Do you guys notice better results with or without the Auto Level Sensing?

Hi polishpiper,

The best thing to start with would be to replace the Dash and door speakers with some really high quality mid-bass door speakers and some high frequency dash tweeters. Coming from a '14 Mazda 6, this unit sounds like heaven. The Bose was not cutting it!

my 03 mazda 6 is great for stock bose. took a little time to adjust the setting for my 4runner. to me, it still is heavy in the base, but weak in the vocals. more so at lower volume levels

Thx guys. I'm sure I will change out the speakers in future ; I just wanna get the system calibrated as good as possible in Stock.
Just was curious what eq. Settings u guys ended up with and if the auto level sensing hurts more than helps the sound quality

Alright guys.... I calibrated the equalizer with a pink noise generator. Thus helps adjust your equalizer to the most accurate sound levels.
The system actually sounds great!
These settings are only accurate for Bluetooth, but are probably pretty close for the other inputs.
My ear told me the system was trebel heavy and my ears were right.
Here are the settings :

Treble: lowest level
Mid: 2 down from center
Bass: 1 down from center


It sounds great with Bluetooth! Give it a shot.

Yeah, never been very impressed with the JBL system either. Seeing as the Limited is the luxury 4runner per se, it'd be nice to see Toyota offer a better sound system with it.
