T4R.ORG Pay More to Play More???

I am a member on other forums like 120, TTORA, FJ Forums, Lexus, and Bimmer forums. out of all of them, only the FJ Forum lets you pay for an upgraded membership, with larger sig, large avitar, more pictures, and free rainbows for life.

Is there a reason this is not common? Honestly I would to play here, and I spend 10x more time here than any other forum.

I will just post my credit card info below....and wait for my rewards...

I'd pay for a membership to help keep this place going. Already helped me out a TON.

On the Isuzu boards I was on (once upon a time) donor's got a nice little dollar sign next to their name with"Donor".

But we also had silly little names that upgraded with post counts... never understood that at all. :doh:

Well the obvious reason is money. Many of the forums you listed are owned by a larger company called autoguide.com. They buy up forums to make money. The fjcruiserforums, tundra talk, clubtitan, clubxterra, etc are all owned and maintained by that company. Offering an upgraded membership is just a way for them to make even more money besides the advertising they sell on the forums. Forums like this one and ih8mud are privately owned, and although they make some money through advertisements, that's not the purpose the forum was created for.

I am familiar with all of that, but when I was paying one here to be a sponsor I liked having a little badge next to my name, but I still think paying for an upgraded membership should be considered. Especially given the fact that the site has been a bit sketchy a few times over the last year.

Just saying, I would pay, and I'm sure May others would...but the great thing is...you do t have too, it's just an option

I would kick down to help maintain a board that was owned by a fellow enthusiast, and I wouldn't need a symbol or whatever to do it. I'm a paying/supporting member on several boards that are owned and maintained by members of the community they serve.

I don't think Admin owns a 4Runner. I don't ever see him post to any threads that aren't specifically to do with board functions, and he only does that when he has to - lots of threads requesting features or concerning malware/bugs/board stability and nasty slowdowns are ignored. This board currently exists to make Admin money, and I wish him well with that, but I don't feel any particular urge to increase his profit margins in return for a stupid little symbol next to my user name.

The other sites I've donated too actually needed the money for software updates, server upgrades and things of the like AND were owned, operated and moderated by enthusiasts.

No I didn't do it for the icon. I did it because the site helped me tremendously in reviving a 18 year old SUV, and learning how to wheel said SUV in a responsible and skillful manner, and I figured it was the least I could do...

ive donated to my other forum that is i believe one of the LAST forums completely user funded. we have not a single add anywhere. no add on the last post no adds all over the screen none of it. and i love it!!! if t4r would drop all adds id donate 100 bucks a year. thats not allot from a single member but look at how many people are on here... it would add up fast.
