Military man eh??? Cool! I have a great deal of respect for people in the military!

Much appreciated. :)

I tried to in list several years ago, but was denied due to my Past History of Asthma....Pretty dumb, considering I later competed in Full Contact Kickboxing and had 2 fights, with NO lung issues. In fact...I had better lungs than most people in the gym! It all worked out for the best though. I ended up staying in my home town, kept dating my (THEN) new girlfriend, got married to her, and had 2 beautiful little girls.

Are you still serving?

Sort of. LOL Bit of a long story, but will keep it short as possible.

Long story short - broke my ankle in May 2010, didn't realize it until November. (Yes, broken for that long; if it doesn't show up on an X-ray, it doesn't show up. It made situps and runs tons of fun.) So they operated in December to remove a 1/2" piece of bone and reattach the tendons/ligaments.

Once off 'profile' I slowly but surely improved my run/situp times, and all that; between May - November 2011, I lost 40 lbs, 5" off my waist, and 9% BMI; and dropped my 2 mile run from 25 to 19 minutes, passed situps, etc.

BUT....@ that point, it had literally been like 3 years since passing a PT test. (Not because I'm a total fatty. Every time I'd heal up, something else would happen. Between May 2005 and December 2010 I've had lower back surgery, double carpal tunnel surgery, double shoulder surgery, and my ankle surgery.)

The CO of my Reserve unit said as long as I kept improving I could extend even IF I didn't meet regulations; as of November 2010 I was off the 'passing' time of my run by about 1.5 minutes.

All of a sudden, @ my November drill, I'm suddenly told I have 3 weeks to make up 1.5 minutes or else I'm barred from reenlistment. No way can I make up that kind of time in 3 weeks; so I'm out of the military for now. (I'll be getting back in soon - I've got 17 years in.) I suspect he was forced to do it; but still, being told for months that I'd be good so long as I made progress, and then suddenly having the rug yanked out, blows the big one. :/

All this being said....I'm a civil service employee (GS-09) - my official title is "Lead Tech, Remote Team" for Fort Leonard Wood's IT operations center. My job consists of driving all over base (in the 4Runner of course :D) fixing IT stuff for Soldiers and government employees and the like. So in a sense, I'm still serving. :)

I've managed to get back most of my strength, put back on about 30lbs of muscle, but managed to put back on just as much fat.... :(

I train 4 days a week, doing Weight Training Full body Circuits on 2 days, and an hour of Kickboxing training twice a week as well. The training is going good, but need to start watching my diet! lol!

(BTW, I don't take the above flexing pics too seriously....just messing around with the camera...lol)

Duhockey...Nice pics! Always been a fan of your rig man!

"Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

Qyota....I'm well aware of the diet I should be following....just not really that motivated just yet to make that change! lol! I used to diet alot when I was in my prime....but after becoming ill, spending 5 weeks in the hospital with nothing more than a few sips of water, and being fed interveinously, I don't restrict my diet too much these days! I am planning on leaning out though....as I'm going to be applying for the Police Force soon.....so going to need to be in decent condition for the PT course! lol!

City_Rider..... you're funny! That's my usually my line....lol!

Fightman, glad to read you were able to gain back the weight. How tall are you?

When I was 18 and joined boot camp I weight 155 @ 6' 1" inches.

By the time I was 25 and until now I weigh 185 @ 6' 2"

Based on that pic and weight I would guess you are at least 6 ft.

(sorry I dont know cm)

Kung, you'll get back into it man....just gotta keep at it!

Oh, I'm already back at it. :) I ran/lifted/etc. hardcore from May to December; and then took a bit of a month off. (I didn't stop everything, but just slowed down a bit.)

Now I'm ready to get back at it; I'm running about 4x a week, and I'll be adding weight training back in. The nice thing is that I'm one of those guys who makes gains pretty dang easily. :)

I'm also planning on starting up P90X @ home with my wife - she's suddenly started working out, now that she can find a place where she can both work out and have our son watched (the local church actually has a workout area, and the ladies take turns watching the kidlets in the nursery).

P90X ain't no joke. I've been doing that and Insanity(made by the same people) for the past month and a half. Already lost 18 pounds...trying to get back to fighting weight before the wedding!

Nice guess....I'm actually 5' 11" tall. I don't use the CM measure for height....also use Lbs instead of KG....easier for me... :)

Nice to hear man! The P90X is a great tool! My buddy had brought it over to my shop/gym in the spring....and I liked it! Expensive to buy though....so I just stick to my free weights. I've got 300lbs in Cast Iron plates, and a bunch of dumbell bars. I got rid of my bench press as it takes too much room in my garage...but use an Exercise ball to do everything I would do on the bench. Makes it a lot more challenging when you're trying to balance yourself when you're benching with dumbells! :)

I'm not lifting to gain too much muscle, just want a good solid base of 170lbs, this way I can stay agile, yet keep my strength. I'm pretty agile considering I'm carrying an extra 20 or so lbs of fat....the Kickboxing training helps me with that. The combination of Cardio Circuits on the Heavy bag and double end ball keep me pretty quick with my hands and feet. I've been filming my training rounds on the bags, and can see a big improvement in my hand speed and accuracy....so I'm doing something right! :)

That's my plan as well, actually. We're finishing our basement within the next two months (doing everything ourselves, from the studding out of the walls to the electrical work, etc.), and once that's done, a corner of the basement 'living room' will be a workout area with an attachment point for my TRX Force, a place to put my kettlebells, etc. :)

Stuff like P90X is, I believe, exactly what I need. I've never had a problem making gains; for instance, the other day, having not been in the gym in a while, I tried out the bench press and the leg press. Going in there cold, my bench is around 210 (which is low, but again, it's been a year or two), and my leg press is around 900.

But I need help building up endurance and stamina for running and such; I'm planning on doing the Tough Mudder in September. :)

BTW - that extra 20 lbs doesn't look like fat to me; I may outweigh you by 20 or so lbs but I'm not too sure I'd mess with you without an escape plan. ;) Especially being as you said above....

There's a basketball team somewhere missing a player, I think. LOL

HA HA!.. Sorry...fixed the height...I'm only 5' 11" tall! lol! Typo! :)

I'm one of the lucky ones. I can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound. Probably eat anywhere from 3,500-4,000 calories a day. Plus I just got a physical and my cholesterol and blood pressure are both great! Lucky too that the things I love to do are pretty active.

Great thread! Keep the pics coming!

Yes, but he specifically said it was a PA polar bear, and not just your run-of-the-mill polar bear. Therefore the color difference. :thumb3:

That is correct Kung. Honestly I was just tyring to make sense of the photo. Being that artic polar bears are the only bears I could even consider imagining in an aquarium the one in the photo had to be one. My logic wasn't quite complete for two reasons, first, because everyone knows that polar bears are white, and second, no sane aquarium director would display non-aquatic animal mounts at their aquarium, it just clashes. There was only one conclusion left to be had, ultra-rare endangered species. Something so protected the general public is not even aware of its name. But when you put all the pieces together it becomes very clear what youre looking at, the Pennsylvania Polar Bear. I cant wait to see this episode of Monster Quest.

Me and the GF at Pittsburgh Aquarium, a couple years ago.

Either Pittsburgh doesnt quite understand what an aquarium is or one of the PA polar bears got out of its tank and is about to snatch your girl...

Ok, guise. I must make a confession. I lied to everyone to sound cooler.

I was at the gift shop as I was existing the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. :D

Since you guys are sleuths, here is another one.

Oh the confusion. Your first photo says "Me and the GF." However, your second photo is the same girl, different guy. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

I don't have any pics of me with my 4Runner right now (besides, thus far, all the mods are internal - aux tranny cooler, aftermarket HU, Koyo A1998 radiator), so all I have is pics of myself and the sweetie.

Notice the picture-in-picture Inception thing. lol (I'd gotten hit in the eye with a rock that day, and almost needed surgery. Thus the half-Manson eye thing.)

I was about 35 lbs heavier in this pic; but an excellent pic of my wife, IMHO. :)

Haha, did anyone else notice we had a love connection going on in this thread between Fightman80 and Kung? Fightman likes that Kung is in the military, they start chatting it up about the old days and their workouts. Fightman starts posting pics of himself and with his shirt off. Guys it got pretty cute there, but if you're going to take it to the next level let's take it to the PM's. :biggrin2:
