Military man eh??? Cool! I have a great deal of respect for people in the military!
Much appreciated.
I tried to in list several years ago, but was denied due to my Past History of Asthma....Pretty dumb, considering I later competed in Full Contact Kickboxing and had 2 fights, with NO lung issues. In fact...I had better lungs than most people in the gym! It all worked out for the best though. I ended up staying in my home town, kept dating my (THEN) new girlfriend, got married to her, and had 2 beautiful little girls.
Are you still serving?
Sort of. LOL Bit of a long story, but will keep it short as possible.
Long story short - broke my ankle in May 2010, didn't realize it until November. (Yes, broken for that long; if it doesn't show up on an X-ray, it doesn't show up. It made situps and runs tons of fun.) So they operated in December to remove a 1/2" piece of bone and reattach the tendons/ligaments.
Once off 'profile' I slowly but surely improved my run/situp times, and all that; between May - November 2011, I lost 40 lbs, 5" off my waist, and 9% BMI; and dropped my 2 mile run from 25 to 19 minutes, passed situps, etc.
BUT....@ that point, it had literally been like 3 years since passing a PT test. (Not because I'm a total fatty. Every time I'd heal up, something else would happen. Between May 2005 and December 2010 I've had lower back surgery, double carpal tunnel surgery, double shoulder surgery, and my ankle surgery.)
The CO of my Reserve unit said as long as I kept improving I could extend even IF I didn't meet regulations; as of November 2010 I was off the 'passing' time of my run by about 1.5 minutes.
All of a sudden, @ my November drill, I'm suddenly told I have 3 weeks to make up 1.5 minutes or else I'm barred from reenlistment. No way can I make up that kind of time in 3 weeks; so I'm out of the military for now. (I'll be getting back in soon - I've got 17 years in.) I suspect he was forced to do it; but still, being told for months that I'd be good so long as I made progress, and then suddenly having the rug yanked out, blows the big one. :/
All this being said....I'm a civil service employee (GS-09) - my official title is "Lead Tech, Remote Team" for Fort Leonard Wood's IT operations center. My job consists of driving all over base (in the 4Runner of course
