I've searched in the past but have yet to find any threads here dedicated for the Astronomers out there. I figured this could be a helpful way to discuss various aspects of astronomy, particularly with respect to transporting equipment, starpartying, and astronomy-camping with our 4Runners. Anyone interested in astronomy is welcome to ask questions as well.

Here's a scope pic to get this thread rolling.. my old Orion XT 12i with MoonLite focuser. Thing was a beast, we nicknamed it King Kong. I've currently got an XT8 (regular Kong), Televue-85, and Celestron-C90. Looking to get back into a large aperture but not sure what yet, eyeing an Obsession Ultra Compact series. If anyone has experience with truss tube does I'm all ears.

Nice, you should! There's a huge scope shop in oceanside called Oceanside Photo and Telescope (OPT).. I've always wanted to go but if you're close I bet it'd be worth checking out, supposedly their showroom is huge.

I kinda got into it a few years ago. I bought myself a Celestron NexStar 130 SLT for a beginners scope. It was pretty awesome to see the planets and such. I'd like to get back into it and get a nicer scope too! I need to find some of my old pics too!

Nice, I'd love to get a go-to scope soon.. Makes it so much easier. I find star hopping Really helps me learn the sky but I have to keep up on it to stay proficient. Yea find your pics!

I don't have a very in depth knowledge of the astro stuff but I thoroughly enjoying going on late night trips to the middle of nowhere to take some astro shots!

I'm no astronomer, but there are plenty of stars to see in Big Bend Ranch State Park. This was taken at the Guale 2 campsite. I highly recommend it if you are considering going. Best campsite in the park (in my opinion).

Thanks! It's much more impressive in person, honestly. If anyone is over in the Big Bend area I highly suggest heading over to the state park and checking it out. It's much more remote than the national park. 300,000 acres of beautiful country without a single paved road.

Bumping this for any updates. I've been spending my spare time getting ready to transition over to large format film photography so my stargazing has been limited to casual sessions. If anyone has some nice astro photos to share, be it wide-angle camera or telescope based, throw it up!
