It wasn't aimed specifically at you, it was just a general question concerning what, to me, seems to be obvious.

And the cup holder, yup may be ghetto but I bet it gets more use than say...a winch.

True but I've never been in a situation where I'm stuck in the middle of the forest alone and thought to myself "man I really wish I had a cup holder"

I hope you weren't thinking I'm hating on the 5th gens. I like all of the years of the 4runner. If you thought that I was hating on the 5th gens, that was not what I was trying say by any means.

You couldn't be more wrong. Each person casts their vote based on what they like the most about a certain rig. I like a 4runner that is taken off road. I don't care about a street rig with a lift and a bunch of lights. I'm not saying that any of these rigs are, but I appreciate someone who isn't afraid to get their runner dirty and risk damage in the pursuit of having fun in their 4runner regardless of year and cost of the vehicle. Driving a 4runner on a mellow dirt road is meaningless if a honda civic can follow suit. Driving a 4runner on a rocky trail or a rutted out dirt trail is another story that shows the capability of the rig and the driver.

I take mine out quite often, but I do not do any serious rock crawling. I have a serious respect for those that do, but I built mine for camping/overlanding. Now we camp out in the middle of nowhere where it takes a 4x4 to get into and out of, especially in inclement weather. I am no stranger to dragging my trailer through some pretty nasty terrain and smashing my skids off of rocks, but I do not take it out and beat it off of stuff intentionally. I am building a '72 Scout to take out to do that

Who in this group didn't nominate themselves?

Again with that crap? I started the trend because I looked at the thread on my phone and did not really read thoroughly so I thought that you nominated yourself. When I figured out that was not the norm, I retracted my vote and put in for someone else. Please tell me that you have NEVER done anything similar so I can fell better about myself for making a mistake because you are obviously a perfect specimen :redbrick:

No wonder most stay on the 5th Gen forum and don't venture out into General....

Again just a general observation. If it was aimed at a particular person I would have called them out by name!

If you search through the 5th gen section how many threads will you find that have the sole intention of berating another generation 4Runner?? None is my guess.

On the other hand if you search through the 4th gen and to a lesser extent the 3rd how many would you find? Quite a few, and they're not just a few posts they are pages long! I've had peeps say to my face "Ya but that's not really a 4Runner" or "But mines a REAL 4runner thats just a 5th". There is a guy with a 4th gen that I wheel with on a semi regular basis and he can't stop telling me whats "wrong" with the 5th's and how "his is closer to its roots"

They are all nice trucks no matter what year they were made. If you look close enough sure you'll find positives and negatives on all of them, but that holds true to every vehicle on the road.

It just makes no sense

Once again there is no rule against nominating yourself.

If this statement weren't true, perhaps you would've noticed that in the last 6 months of these 'competitions' only one person has nominated himself. And that is a precedent, not a rule. But I guess you didn't notice T4RotM until the 5th gens came up?

I'm not sure where you're looking, but I haven't seen 'quite a few' threads (or any for that matter) in the 4th section with 'the sole intention of berating another generation'.

I also haven't seen anyone in this thread say that 5ths are lesser than any other gen. But I have seen posts like this -

Back to your own section now...to toil in envy :wink2:

Yes its a general observation but that does not mean its wrong. As with all general observations its true for some and not for others. Maybe that's why they call it a 'general' observation. I'm not as polite as my friend. I call it elitism. I call it some thinking they are better than others. Don't wheel you truck? Well, you are not one of the cool kids! 5th Gen? Then you must be a rich kid whose mommy bought you the truck or you are a dumb twit with massive debt. This attitude can be found all over, even in this thread. Yes, its a minority view but its out there enough that its obvious and I personally and publically reject this mindset.

When I had and wheeled my 4th Gen I never saw or heard this kind of crap. There was always a respect and love for all members here. I saw some of it when I had a Heep but we should be better than that.

Hang on...let me check something......Yep, the name of this forum is still Toyota-4Runner.org so until I hear otherwise I will continue to assume this place welcomes ALL 4Runner owners even moms of 5 who like the trucks only because they can fit lots of shoes in the back after shopping at the mall.

True but I've never been in a situation where I'm stuck in the middle of the forest alone and thought to myself "man I really wish I had a cup holder"

Really? Never stopped while off road, opened up the tail gate and had lunch and drinks with good friends? Dude, you seriously need to get over yourself. Listen, I admit that I don't know how it is in Cinnamon Dolce Latte with Extra Whipped Cream drinking Cali but in more than a few other parts of the world one would be very wise to tread lightly on who they call ghetto.

Well my friends, I guess that concludes my acceptance speech on the honor of being nominated. I would also like to thank my family and God without who I would still be driving a K car. :lmao:

This thread has gone bad...

:police:

No doubt! I just stopped in to see what was going on in the poll, and this thread looks like a transcript of a Jerry Springer show (LOL). Give it a rest, fellas--a 4Runner is a 4Runner, no matter what the price tag is. Yeah, most 5th Gen's are probably "mall crawlers", because even the most jaded person is usually hesitant to scratch up a nearly-new vehicle. When they're as old as some of the others are now, people will be more willing to venture off the asphalt path. Personally, I don't like the styling, but that could just as easily be the case with ANY of the Gens in someone else's eyes. Shake hands and make up--we're all rooting for the same team here!

I vote every time, but never nominate. I understand its not "against the rules", but its irritating to keep reading people *****ing or poking fun about it.

I see, sorry I misunderstood. I just wanted to make sure it was known that it has happened in the other months, and don't want others to believe it's against the rules.

From my experience with this forum (and all forums) poking fun is something that just happens. You can either say screw it and laugh about it or get offended and try to offend others. A lot of things get said and things like misinterpreted tone or intentions, and even just overlooking or misreading an important word or a post as you skim threads, happen. A lot.

I'd like to apologize to all for being the first to poke fun and instigating this riot. I think all these builds are great and have surfed enough threads (long before this month) to know they all see a fair amount of dirt.

I hope this ordeal doesn't sully the T4RotM deal for people, as I really think it's kinda fun. But it really has gotten out hand this month, and I may be to blame for that.

Oh yeah we stop all the time on the trail and pop the tailgate and have lunch back there. I have a camp table built into my CBI bumper so we put our drinks on that.

For the record, I didn't call anyone ghetto, I said the mod was ghetto and it kinda is...

I'm also not sure what that coffee drink is that you described (and know so well) because when I drink coffee it's straight Espresso and when I drink spirits it's Bourbon or Gin not The miller lite you stick in those prissy cup holders

Good for you! Not sure how all the buzz got started, but this is a good way to reset things. Now back to butt-kicking trucks...

what hate?

i dont see any hate, i love 5th gens... although some of the mods are questionable! hahaha

(cupholdings in the tailgate.... ghetto!)

I agree we should get back on track here- but first @ the_josh:

Ya know, I voted for your truck last month. I even congratulated you in the thread when you won.

Now you insult me and call my cupholders "Ghetto"? Tell that to the 15 or so people that have PM'd me after they did the mod as well.

Sorry I can't throw money at my truck like some of you- family comes first- Mods are just for fun. My entire build thread is just for fun, and most open minded people can appreciate that.

Anyway- keep throwing parts on your truck. I won't be visiting your build thread anytime soon.:hatsoff:

Mods, you ought to lock this thread now before it gets ugly. @ the josh: I read your build thread and was impressed until I read your posts here. Now not so much.

I did not intend to attack you. I just saw a picture somewhere of cup holders drilled into the bumper and that's what I thought and that my opinion and honestly you shouldn't care less what I think. But I do apologize for offending you.

I didn't mean to start a fight and I honestly didn't expect people to get so butthurt about a few comments. I'm not sure if the age range of different gen owners is The real reason people are getting upset or what. But all and all a 5th gen is as much of a real 4runner as a 1st gen and that's that...

Apology accepted.:fishing:

Lets just get back on track so Brock can claim his Dually's!

No offense Brock, but I literally laughed out loud! It was a much needed laugh in this thread. Early congrats on the Dually's, if the duallys are an eye sore, I could take them for ya :)

I'm glad this forum has a lot of people with some grace by apologizing so sincerely, you don't see that in other forums.
