Taco vs 4Runner

I have a 1st Gen. runner and a 06 Taco. I love the Runner for kayaking and throwing the dogs (Labs) and gear in the back, and hitting a trail or making a new one. I have a kayak rack on top for the touring yak, and the 2 little play yaks get tossed in the back and just hang out the rear window a bit. The Taco is a 4x4 access cab with a bed cover and is used primarily as a tow vehicle for the pop-up and john boat. I have even double towed and got 15mpg (4 litre / 6 speed). I was so torn I keep both because they do each job so well. I guess if I had to choose I would go in favor of a new Runner. These days they are so much more powerful and roomy than my old '89. To me you'd have all the abilities of a Taco with the exception of tall cargo...but like I said I kept both! But you can put a camper shell on a Taco...

I was torn too but the runner came out on top cuz of $$$. If I had the money to buy brand new I think I'd go with the Taco w/ a canopy...although with what a loaded Taco costs i think I'd rather buy both used so I could have the best of both worlds! Regarding the doggies...the trick is to get 1 in each size group...small, medium and large! We have a 10lb Shit Tzu/Yorkie, a 50lb Lab/bull terrier and a 120lb lab/pointer cross.
if you get a truck and want to cover it you will have an extra charge to buy a canopy on top of buying the truck. where the 4R as you know is already covered and the seats fold down.
I am in the same boat where i only have one med size dog and would love to have a truck, but I keep leaning towards the 4R cause I can crash it it easier and the dog will have more room cause he rides with me on the hwy. only in the bed of the truck around town.
