Tacoma skid plate on a 4Runner?

Okay, I did a search on it but nothing came up. I was at the dealership today and I saw this nice looking skid plate for the Tacomas hanging on the wall. I know the 4Runner has a flimsy skid plate as an accessory, but it's mainly for cosmetics. Has anyone tried bolting these onto their 4Runner?

IMO the older style skidplate looks so much better and that one is much flimsier because of it's size.

I never saw it on a 4Runner, either. Since you saw this at the dealership, I am sure you asked them if it fits, right? :

If you like it and it fits with no mods needed, why not?

We had one here at the shop and I tried it on the 4R....Will not fit without modifying it.

I was on my way out of the parts dept when I saw it. Running late for an appt so I didn't have time to ask.

Yes, drilled one new hole, scrapped the existing mounting brackets, and bend it back it bit by leveraging it on a step and placing your weight on it...make it fit.

It is nice to see a 5" lift out there. I thought there was only the 2/3 cornfed lift available.

So is that a 5" in the front and 5" in the back?

How much for the lift? and installed?

What are the biggest size tires you can run without rubbing? Height & width of tire?

How is the ride, handling, gas?

Sorry so many questions, but I am preparing to lift my 4r and just wanted some additional info.

Any info you can give would be great.

I LEFT THE FOX CO AT THE STOCK SETTINGS, AFTER INSTALL I NETTED 1.5 INCHES OVER MY 4 INCH REVTEK (3/4 INCH TOPOUT NE SPACER) SINCE INSTALL 6 MO AGO ITS SETTLED TO JUST OVER AN INCH HIGHER THEN OLD SETUP, HENCE MY 5 INICH CLAIM

Sorry so many questions, but I am preparing to lift my 4r and just wanted some additional info. I'VE HIT THE TRAIL PRETTY HARD, BLEW OUT MY FRONT BOOTS BUT THEY WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, PROBABLY JUST ORDINARY WEAR AND TEAR AS I HAVE 60k NOW. MY 4RUNNER NOW HAS A TENDENCY TO CHARGE DIPS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE REGARDLESS OF DEPTH AND ANGLES NOW, NOT SURE WHY BUT ITS FUN KNOCKN' MY NOGGIN AROUND...

Any info you can give would be great.

I still like the older style since the new one sits way under the Runners and just looks like a regular plate just painted and doesn't stand out at all.

I stay on Oahu-Kaneohe to be exact. Where you at? Just in case I need to fly you down here to lift my 4R. I am down with saving $1400 on labor. Shoot I would spend that on your air ticket to get here. Jus joke...but if you serious we can talk...hehe

Yeah let me know how those 34" tires work out for you. I really want to stuff some 35-36" tires, but everyone is telling me that i have the wrong vehicle for this kind of mod. I dont want to believe them, but they may be speaking the truth because I dont see much out there to accomodate my wants.

Good to hear that it corners better than XREAS. I emailed Fox Sports to see if they made lifts for my 4R, and they said they didn't. They recommended that I check out a local 4wheel parts store to get additional info.

What size rim are you running? Diameter and width. My ideal would is a 20x10" rim on a 35-36" tire. Who I can smell that money burning already. I think my ride would look sick with this combo and I havent seen any close to this.

Just having an internal battle whether to lift it or keep it stock.

You can fit 35's, I know that for a fact, and if have your heart set on it, I bet you could fit 36's too. That being said, it is not as simple as just putting a lift on.

Check on toyota120.com, there are a few guys running 35's (see bulldog and AlexJet). 34's seems to be a better choice (see expat).

Just do a search "35's on a 4runner"

It seems to require at least 3 inches of suspension lift, about 1.5 inches of body lift and lots of trimming (I think new UCA's too)

Also, with tires that big, regearing your 4runner might be very beneficial.

Hello - came across this old post of yours and I got inspired! I picked up the same Tacoma skid plate to put on my 07 4Runner. Seems like mounting it is going to be a bit harder than I thought.

Did you bend the front lip flat? Also, if you still have this 4Runner, any chance you would send a pick from underneath so I could see where you mounted the bolts and where you drilled the hole?

Unfortunately I sold the 04 back in 11 when I bought the LC 200, I remember vaguely I had to drill 2 new holes, don’t recall if I had to bend any lips...good luck!
