Tacoma Suspension Swap

These swaps are the best bang for the buck. Not much difference in the weight of a Tacoma versus a 4 runner. A little more for the V8. I bought a 2016 TRD suspension with 4k miles on it for $100 and the improvement was substantial. I am a self made entrepreneur and can afford any suspension available in the market but my knowledge and intelligence leads me to this economical and smart alternative. I am not making a Baja vehicle and i am more than happy with my selection on my 4Runner. It drives great and i am more than satisfied. I spent more than 3K on my suspension on my 3500 Dodge and i think i wasted a lot of money.

I too am very rarely going to be off-roading but am doing this as i need new shocks anyways (225k miles) so I figured why not go this route to save money as well.

Okay dumb dumb question time.
I got my set from a guys garage in a box and all I had to do was give him a case of beer:cheers:
My problem (and after hours of searching yielded no return) is which side is which when it comes to the front springs :noidea:

Red and green dot is driver’s side, red and blue dot is passenger. Not a dumb question, as it fixes the “driver’s side lean” issue. [emoji482] :cheers:

This just made me go out and check mine that I installed a month or so ago, and I have them as you said but I still have the damn lean of about a half inch on the driver's side.

So I recently picked up an '07 V8 limited w/ 159k on it. Rides nice but I have to do the front sway bar bushings. I had started looking into the Bilstein 5100's and came across a guy about 2 hrs from me selling a Tacoma TRD setup for $100 that had 25k miles on it. I won't be able to get out there to him for another week or so and they may be gone by then. Another guy only about 20mins away is selling same set from a '17 Tacoma TRD that was removed when it had 5700 mi on it for $140. I don't plan on doing any real wheeling, just using it as a winter DD and a handful of beach days in the summer so a small lift would be nice. Is it worth the extra $40 to secure a lower mile set? I'm not even sure what they're worth in the 1st place. Or is there no comparison w/ the 5100's?

I would grab that for $140 if you can for sure! I rode in a couple 4Runners with 5100's and 2-3" lift springs (Toytec and Eibach I believe) and they rode very similar to my TRD Tacoma setup. If the guy you are buying them from left the fronts assembled, then it is such an easy swap also. You may still have to get rear springs or spacers to avoid having a higher front rake, but you would have to do that either way. No aftermarket UCA's needed either to keep alignment in spec, so that saves some money. I'm super happy with the lift, ride and value I got just from the TRD fronts, and my driving is also DD with the occasional beach or trail roads and not much wheeling. :banana:

The “X-REAS delete...” post linked in my sig will be of interest. I went essentially the same route you’re looking at and it’s been golden. Good for whoever wants to lay out huge $$ on suspension components but I don’t get it, especially b/c the performance is the same as similar full price options. Plus, it’s not like a shirt you can return if you don’t like it so I wanted to minimize the amount I was risking.

So I have a 14 4runner with xrea. I got a set of struts off a 19 TRD Tacoma how much lift would I get if I switch struts and install stock shocks on rear. Would like to just level it.

I ended up using:
-2017 Tacoma TRD Pro 4x4 Front shocks and springs with 1/2" spacers -(giving an additional 1" lift) and rear shocks.
-OME 895e rear springs

I want to say it was close to a 3" lift overall (unfortunately I didn't measure before, i was too excited to get it done)

Definitely need some new tires!

I've done very similar with mine, using 2019 Tacoma Bilstien shocks with springs and rear 2017 Tacoma Bilstien shocks with new FJ springs going in this weekend. I haven't done the spacers but I might, at least on one side as I am seeing about 1/2" difference in ride height from passenger to driver side.

I had the XREAS system on mine and the front was almost completely collapsed. I also gained about 3" of lift in the front.

Seems great so far. Pretty solid! I have to get my lower control arms replaced since they are ceased. While I'm at it I'm going to be replacing the upper control arms as well.

They were Streetrays 1/2 aluminum spacers bought on Ebay.....
