Tacoma whip mod clarification

Hey guys I wAs looking at the tacoma whip mod thingy and in the how to guide there was all this crazy glove compartment and dash removal. So anywasys I was curious to know if I could just tape the bottom of the new cable to the top of the old one and just pull it throug the dash.

Hey guys I wAs looking at the tacoma whip mod thingy and in the how to guide there was all this crazy glove compartment and dash removal. So anywasys I was curious to know if I could just tape the bottom of the new cable to the top of the old one and just pull it throug the dash.

unfortunately it doesn't work like that since the cords are permanently attached to the antennae and the cords are held in place by clips behind all of that stuff, that said it is incredibly easy and shouldn't take more then 30 mins if you go slow and fumble around alot (i do)

but to make life easier on yourself once you've unclipped the old wire tie a string to it and pull it out of the fender well and then attach a string on to the new cable and then pull the string/cable back through the other way, it'll save you alot of effort and bother doing things that way,


the way i did was like this,
remove h/u and trim.
remove glove box
remove upper glove box pocket covering
remove passenger side heater tube
remove kick pass side kick panel
disconnect ant cable
tie string to cable
unclip leads

pull back the plastic on the fender well
un-bolt ant.
pull cable through fender
tie string from old cable to new cable.
bolt taco whip up
go back to glove box and pull cable through with string
hook up to h/u and then re assemble everything


the cable is a bit tricky and so is the bulk head fitting on the ant itself , a set of vise grips with a rag will help here a bit.
