What do you guys know about these two Toyota assembly plants?

Based on a quick search it looks like Tahara won this year JD Powers top quality award and they make all of the top Lexus models at that plant as well as our beloved 4runners

I've noticed that some of the forums I frequent have the url input swapped such that the text tag (which is optional here and defaults to the url) is sometimes second...here it's first.

So which digit is it in the VIN that will tell where a particular 4Runner was made?

I've got an '05 on order and from what I'm reading, I'm hoping it was both made in Tahara, and equipped with Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires: both of which seem to just be a matter of odds.

My GS4 was built in Tahara and I'm pretty pleased with it. My 00 Silverado came stock with Goodyears but I eventually replaced them with Michelin X-Terrains, and it was night and day in overall ride quality and especially wet weather traction. Needless to say I've come to appreciate and hope for both qualities on the new incoming 4Runner.

As for the Michelins, yup, it's all a matter of who is supplying the tires at the time your car is being built. Most of them seem to be coming with the Dunlops or the Bridgestones, though I did see one with the Michelins a week ago on my dealer's lot.

I would tell the dealer that you want to have Michelins exchanged with another 4runner if your's doesn't come with them. That is what I did. The dealer doesn't care. Most people don't know the difference. Just us smart guys :
