In my 86 i cant get power to the tailgate motor. I have power going thru the relay. But when I check at the tailgate I dont have any. I haver been trying to figure this out for over a week and at my wits end. The only thing I can think of now is the switch for when the top is off, I dont know how to test it or bypass it. Does any one have any ideas?

I believe that stitch simply grounds out to activate. It's on the driver's side bolt next to the roll bar.

A more common issue is the switch in the tailgate that senses if the gate is closed.

Will it roll down in the back w/ the key in the tailgate or not? Just asking cause I did something stupid one day thinkin mine was bad also. I cut on the window locks and tried to roll down the back glass and it wouldnt. It would work w/ the key in the back but not the switch in the front. I was scratching my head for a little while til I remember to cut it back on. Just an idea. Not sure if teh 1st Gen is similiar to the 2nd Gen.

Im not getting any power to the motor. I have been playing with it and got the relay to click with the switch on the center console but about 5 clicks and it was gone again. I checked and cleaned the grounds but still nothing again. I have reset the relay by the inside fuse box.

Did they come w/ a rear wiper? Looking through my serviec manual and saying the fuse could be one problem if it has rear wiper. The manual is for the 2nd gen so not sure if the 2 cross over or not/

Un-hook:

the "all the way up switch" on the center of the regulator

the "its locked" switch also on the center of the regulator.

Unhook the "it's closed" switch located on the drivers side top corner of the gate.

Hot wire the "the top is on switch" located driver side near rear roll bar support

I bet one or all of those has failed.
