tailgate window regulator

I've scoured around to find how-to videos but none are quite what I'm expecting. I've got the classic window regulator failure - window won't go up, slows down at the end, etc. (2019 t4r)

I bought a replacement motor but now that I've got the tailgate panel off, I'm questioning if I should just replace the entire regulator if I have to pull it out anyway.

Questions:
1. is pulling the regulator required to replace the motor?
2. arguably more important, is the motor even what goes bad or is it likely the regular is gunked up so bad the motor struggles? Usually OEM toyota motors last longer than 7 years...
3. any good how-to videos? 1a auto is usually my go to but oddly enough don't have it

I have not seen any 5th gen motor and regular replacement videos. if your vehicle is up there in age its sometimes a while you're in there repair. I just did both at the same time, but had the dealer do it because it was mid Feb and I got the parts for a good price. it can be a tricky repair if any bolts are seized and rusted

Everything is pretty clean, no rust thankfully despite 200k miles. I'll just do both for sure, might as well.

Also, now I'm sad about Gracie. I'm sure she was the best girl.

Did the motor on mine a month ago, but messed up and got the cable spool unwound. Rewinding it has things off kilter now for the regulator... so, since I'm in the same boat of not finding good guidance, I'm leaning towards a dealer repair unless someone has a suggestion for how to fix on my own?

thanks man. every dog is the best dog! ya if you replace both at the same time you likely won't need go back in there for 5+ years. my original equipment lasted 12 years. many times though the brackets that hold the bolts to secure the glass to the regulator give people trouble. if you snap one of those bolts or break the retainer you're going to have a bad day

I’ve replaced both the motor and the regulator subassembly. Not a hard job. Should take about 1.5 hours.

replaced both regulator and motor, worked fine when I bolted stuff up so I put all the trim back and now nothing works again :|

checked fuse and that's fine. Checked voltage across power and ground at the motor harness block plug and getting 12v. I think the motor either died instantly or it's hitting some sort of safety.

Anyone have any suggestions? No door open dash light when the doors are closed, but both key and switch are dead. no response.
