Take the body lift off of a 85 4runner

Hello,

I have a 1985 4Runner with a suspension lift (Chevy Springs) and a body lift. It is running 33 X 12.5 mud tires.

I also have a 3rd gen 6cyl 4WD. So, I have decided to take the body lift kit off of the 85, put some more streetable tires on it, and assign it for general family extra-car transportation.

I did not do the body lift. It was already lifted when I bought it. So I am not sure exactly what the reversal process will entail.

I would like to gather all of the procedure information and parts that I can so that I can do it all in one shot without having to stretch the job out and have a disabled vehicle in the way. My kids are of driving age and living at home while they are in community college so we have a lot of vehicles in the driveway and limited space.

I assume that I will need stock body bolts and mounts. I think I also have to adjust the steering column height, do something with the shifter mounting or boots, or something, etc...

I would really appreciate help with what all needs to be done and where GOOD parts can be sourced. I can find all kinds of information on the web about lifting. But not any info about bringing it back down.

Thanks,

Jeff

Holy, Can-o-Worms, Batman!!! With bigger springs, the mounts get moved, and old mounts generally get cut off. This goes for shocks as well. There is the first issue. You will most likely have to re-center the axles as well. You are looking at twice the hours and work, at least, here. I just did a 4" suspension lift, and it took 2 men, 7 weekends of work, one man a professional mechanic with a car hoist. Plus, these parts may not even be at all compatible with a different year Toyota.
In my humble and respectful opinion, this is a Very bad idea. Just buy the right parts for the 3rd gen and do it right.
I got my kit from all pro offroad, with the Hi-steer kit your probably looking at $2,500 in parts, plus every bit of extra time that you have.
Do you have a plasma cutter? Lots of cutting and grinding involved.

If your just removing the boody lift than i think you just need the stock mounts and hardware. Im getting ready to swap a body lift from one 2nd gen to another.
