Talk me off the ledge (HELP)

Well I'm gonna jump in on this. When I was 15 I had the option to get a Jeep Wrangler, or a 4runner. I actually had the option to get any car, but I narrowed it down. Not only are jeeps super unreliable, but theyre also dangerous. Even when I was 15 I was able to realize that a 4runner with a sunroof is just as good as a wrangler. Plus I cant tell you how many times Ive said to myself "its a beautiful day, it wont rain" and sure enough youll drive into a downpour. With a 4runner you can roll up all the windows in 10 seconds, IF you're slow. Yeah Jeeps are cool, but dude just get a 4runner. You'll be so much happier, I know I am. If I was stuck with a Jeep at this point in my life I would just call myself a dumbass and have to live with it

You obviously screwed something up when you put the lift on or have a worn out part. Did you get it aligned?
 
I've had some weak moments from time to time, I mean, who doesn't like the look of a nicely lifted jeep? I gotta say though, side by side, I'll pick my 4th gen every time. The refinement, the ride, and dare I say, the damn sexy looks, kick the crap out of the Jeep any day :pimp:

They do not like the 5th gen 4runner either.
 
Ok forget them, go to edmunds.com or any other site that has actual consumers ratig the vehicle. All in all you'll notice that the jeep will have much worse reviews then any Toyota vehicle. Just saying. Domestic cars are not what they used to be 15years ago. Today domestics are cheaply made, maintenance whores, and have flashy interiors to attract unknowledgable consumers to pick them instead of much better built imports. Imports if maintained properly will last you MUCH longer with less maintenance then any domestic
 
I can relate to the temptation...experienced that twice in one week here recently. One of my buddies bought a new 4-door Call-of-Duty edition. The interior and exterior were nice, as well as all the off-roading gear. Later that week when I went off-roading in my 4Runner, I was watching 4-door Wranglers navigating areas I couldn't because my 4R backend sticks out so much.

I won't part with my 4Runner and am enjoying the challenge of modding it to be a better off-road vehicle. But I can certainly understand the appeal of a 4-door Rubicon or CoD edition.
 
So, I'm going to be the devil's advocate for just a little bit... okay maybe not.

But seriously, you are going to hear a very biased opinion here. At this day and age, I say go for whatever feeds your obession/interest. Why? Because you'll always lust over one and will always wonder how it would've been to own one (even for a short while).

What are the ramifications to your decision other than backlash from this community? Haha, well... once you realize (if ever, in your eyes) that the 4runner is better in comfort, reliability, re-sale, and capability then your wallet will feel the brunt of the hit you take from selling the Jeep and going back to the yota.

It can be a hard lessen learned or the best you've made, period.

Or, you can just go test drive one haha. You get the idea

Seriously though... I love my 4Runner more than a Jeep. Don't get me wrong, I like the way a built up Jeep looks and I would rock one for fun. But not if it meant replacing my 4Runner.
 
Never have figured out why people buy brand new Jeep Wrangler's? The body style has essentially remained unchanged for the last what -- 20+ years...

That's not mine. But mine was the same way.

It ended up being the shocks putting dead spots in the tires. Death wobble ain't an easy fix. It can be litterally 20 different things.
 
Gve me a break! What did you think you were going to hear on a 4runner forum?

I'm sure Wrangler forums rave about them and I've read that new Wranglers are FAR better built than prior years.

Go see one, drive it, and if you like it, get it and have a blast.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE and if you don't like it 2 years from now sell it to some teenager who will be drooling over it. No harm done.

Reviews from any org are useless outside of reliability and TCO data. The rest is totally subjective.
 
No way in hell I would buy the new wrangler, it looks nice, but its too ecpensive and they IMO made all.those 4x4 options just to get you to think.its cool, when they all do the same thing. They are very top heavy as well. & overrated. my dad has a 09 jeep wrangler. I like it, and drove it alot over a few years. I would personally stick with my 4runner. if you want one, get a 99 or 2000 with a manny tranny.

Convertibles are for girls.

Jeeps are ugly; there isn't a stylish thing about them. That's why they're big off road; beat em up and no one cares. 4runner at least is something to look at with nice lines.

Jeep people will wave to you and you will have to wave back. Do you really want to be ...one of those people?
 
Don't listen to 4runner people. Most are way too practical.

Go for your Jeep!! Its something you should do a few times in life..... go against conventional practical wisdom and have some fun!!

And this is not very much of a stretch or risk. Sales of them are brisk because they're fun and have gotten better.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE BUT THATS OK SO LONG AS YOU DO IT BIG THE FIRST TIME!!

This has been my experience as well; on the other hand the Wrangler I was in was 2002 give or take a few. Still the on-rode feel was like being in a washing machine on the spin cycle and all of the cloths were on one side. I blame the wheel base being so short. (Like a midget)

But it's true, you aren't going to get a lot of objective responses on a Toyota forum, not on a Jeep forum either for that matter! Go with your gut man, If it ends up being the wrong move, nothing is forever!

They updated the body style in 2007, the interior in 2011, and the engine in 2012.

My wife has a 2007 Unlimited with spacer lift and 285s. It rides like a shopping cart and doesn't handle much better, but part of that is the tires. It has the old engine and it's all you can do to get it up to 55, but again, part of that is the tires. The hard top is black and will melt your scalp on a 70 degree day. All that said, she loves it. She had a stock 2002 2dr before, and that was just as rough with the short wheel base. Also, it doesn't fit tall people very well.

The new ones are pretty sweet with the dual lockers, auto sway bar disconnect, and upgrades axles, but if you don't offroad, what's the point?
