Howdy,
Had the opportunity to pick up a set of these from Bobby at High Tech, nice product, nice price, awesome customer service (although we know that's not news)
The lights.... SR-M Flush Mount Diffused
I'm very happy with the light spread and the look. I thought about putting them in the rear hatch, but then it would only throw light when the gate was down...no good...so this was the next logical spot on the Trail Edition
One thing I will say, is I used a Rotozip tool (designed for cutting sheetrock) and it worked quite well...I have a cordless model. I cut through the first section of plastic, then the one behind it using the supplied template. I installed two pieces of 3M 2" wide blue tape to protect the plastic from scratching and such.
When it came time to mount the lights themselves, I had some cabinet door bumpers, self stick, that I used on the bottom flange of the light, which tipped the light more upright, and increase the spread behind the truck. I feel if they were not shimmed up, they would shoot down to far, not taking advantage of the light's potential.
The switch supplied with the lights worked well, I happened to find a rectangular plastic plug, with a little black silicone, that slide right in, and looked acceptable.
Wiring was pretty basic, the usual route through the door sills, to the Blue Sea box under the hood. The only pain was drilling up near the turnsignal to feed the wire to the rear...a little hairy for a backyard mechanic like me.
Once the wiring was set, I taped around the lights with 3/4" wide blue tape, and black silicone caulked around the lights themselves. In the morning, when the caulking set, I gave the screws a quarter turn to make sure they were tight. On a side note, I tried tightening the lights down prior to caulking, and found that the screws actually squeezed the rubber bumpers out...so I back them out just enough to hold them straight.
and gratuitous "lights on in the f'in daylight, which serves no practical purpose" shot...
and the switch...I know, the trucks filthy...cut a brother some slack, we just had a hurricane..
oh...
and the cat got high centered on the cellar steps...tried to winch his a$$ off...but I ended up finally using Pounce..
