Comments and opinions welcomed. My rebuilt-remanufactured 3.4L engine blew with catastrophic head gasket failure after 2 years. A storm of gases, fumes and steam was just pouring out the left hand side of the engine. The car never overheated and was still driveable even after. I am about to confront my rebuilder; there is a 5 year warranty on the engine, he is tearing it down to see what happened and I know what happened - the engine was leaking internally for at least a year because I had an unexplainable loss of water. This caused me to keepadding water, flushing with a lot of rust, and I was never able to clear the rust after repeated flushings. I notified my rebuilder at least 5 months prior that I was having an unexplainable loss of water with no hose leak, all new hoses - and he even tested them. Gave me some vague explanation that the fan clutch was not working - even though the car was never overheating! Changed the fan clutch made no difference, changed the rad cap made no difference. Ok, the thing here that I don't get is that obviously water was leaking into the engine. So how come I never got a CEL, how come I never saw oil in the radiator water, no white smoke car ran great. I did talk to another tech who said this is all possible with a small internal leak that is vaporized in the cat converter - and actually, even serves to cool the engine! My rebuilder is going to tell me there is rust in the engine, all my fault and this destroyed the gasket he will not do it for free. My claim is that I advised him there was a serious problem months ago with unexplained water loss but he may tell me that since there was no CEL and no oil in the radiator and no white smoke, there was no such indication of an internal gasket failure. Yeeks, what should I do here, do I have an argument? Whew.
