Technicial help...my clock keeps resetting time??

Yes, update. I had learned to live with the weird clock thing since I have a clock on my phone. My 6 cylinder had the dreaded head gasket leak problem so I had the dealer do the head gaskets, valve stem seals, etc. When I got the vehicle back the clock was reset and has stayed accurate since then?? I am not sure what they did but I am thinking they must have reset a module that controlled the clock?? :guitar3: I have had it back for 2 months with no slip ups!

I'm wonder if they did a Zero Point Calibration after doing the head gaskets and that may have fixed the issue?

Not sure? It turns out it was something with the old hid kit I had on my runner. Since the last post I replaced the old retrofit source kit with a new retrofit source kit that has different hook ups ... my clock now works fine [emoji16]

My clock does weird stuff as well. Never found the cause or a solution and I am an engineer. I gave up on this problem because it appears the issue stems from erratic eddy currents on the ground plane which result from rapid discharge of accessories upon power off. This discharging of accessories through the ground plane of the vehicle is somehow screwing with the power supply of the clock. If one wanted to fix this permanently, one would isolate the power supply with a filter or an R/C network to keep power fluctuations minimal. To diagnose, you could put an oscilloscope on the clock circuit and turn on and off the new lights you installed, I bet you would see strange power spikes. So if the dealer says "its your stupid lights" that are causing the issue, they are probably correct, even though that is not a valid troubleshooting explanation.

Aftermarket chinese designed/manufactured HID kits rarely have isolated power supplies because those are expensive and difficult to implement when you are trying to sell your products as cheaply as possible, so its unlikely that you will ever find any aftermarket HID system that works correctly. An alternative is that you retrofit the HID system from a Lexus, which has already been engineered to work and is definitely not made in China. The downside is that those parts are not as cheap as chinese aftermarket junk.

Hello,
I am new here, but I just wanted to say, "Thanks for the help." The same problem was happening to me with the clock resetting to 1p. I own a 2007 Lexus GX470. So, here is the problem and following is the solution:

PROBLEM: - keyless entry remote - fail
- clock resetting to 1p
- steering wheel not moving upon key entry/exit into ignition
- auto. door lock failure when button depressed on any door (car had to be on for auto. door lock to work...)

My original thoughts: The problem is either the remote battery in the keyless entry keyfob or the car battery itself. I would have never dreamed that it would be a 10 amp fuse! I had my doubts though about it being the battery, because it just started up so quickly with no hesitation. Oh well, live and learn...

I tried the following:
- Changed battery in keyless entry remote - Kept old car battery - Problem not resolved
- Kept old battery in keyless remote - Bought new car battery - Problem not resolved
- New battery in keyless remote - New car battery - Problem not resolved
- New battery in keyless remote - New car battery - Changed #27 fuse (ECU-B @ 10 amp) underneath hood in fuse/relay panel - Problem resolved - Owner happy!

So, I just want to say, "Thanks!" You all helped me resolve an issue that I assumed was coming from one of two alternate sources!

But here's the bonus... I had some extra lights on in the instrument cluster as well that were staying on - the VSC Trac and the VSC Off, and now they are off!

Regards,
Bryan M
