in the past i have had very bad luck with transmitions. to help avoid this problem i would like to install a analog temp guage in the cab. i have a 1999 limited. now my understanding is the truck already has a tranny temp sensor. so is the job as easy as tapping in to the existing wires and adding the guage? or is there more to it.

Just buy a scangauge and it will read the transmission temp
True for 99 and after, but not for '96-'98 models. '96 - '98 will have to utilize an aftermarket gauge.
I can vouch for the scangaugeII you can buy it at any autozone, online on ebay if u wanna save the tax costs.
I just recently bought this car and just like you I was worried about the transmission so I did the front oil cooler mount and by passed the radiator, now I use the scangaugeII to measure my transmission temperature and water temperature. The unit has a lot more features I'm just now getting used to it.:driving:
