Tents, non-RTT. What do you use

My Coleman tent is going on 20 years of faithful service.

I think it is time for an upgrade. What is everyone using? I would need enough room for me, a kid and a dog. I am not sure if I am going to go bigger than the 4 person we have now or one of those tiny tents I see people shaking out to clean. Nothing fancy, just need a tent that will last like this one did.

Works great for backpacking too. Fast to set up and take down. Had for about 1 year, used dozens of times, no complaints, love it.

For the entire family of 4: Marmot Halo 6. Super roomy and super easy to put up. pics 3 and 4.
For me alone in bad or windy weather: sleep in the 4R. If not an option, Mountain Hardware Trango 2.5 w/ a cot inside. pics 5 and 6.
For me and one of my kids on a trip: Marmot Limelight 3. Pics 1 and 2.

As you can tell, I love to go to Joshua Tree.

I would check out the REI Kingdom 6 we have it with the Garage add on (giant vestibule) and have been very happy with it. The Marmot is quite nice as well and I’ve slept in it; it’s just really expensive and I didn’t notice a difference in quality.

Big Agnes copper spur ul3, So far I have only gotten to use it a small handful of times. It is a great, lightweight tent, but if i had to do it over I would have bought something cheaper since im hankerin for a RTT

1 night or less and I'm sleeping in the back of the 4runner.
2 nights or more and the tent comes out.
20 years ago I got a north face VE24 for 50% off. Recently it seen the last of its days. NF gave me a another 50% off for the lifetime warranty. So I bought the VE25.

Then I won a big agnes voucher at a climbing festival. Their tents look pretty sweet for the money. A 3 person blacktail lists for $280 in their new catalog.

Kodiak Canvas

Another Kodiak canvas user here... as a desert camper this tent turned into a massive luxury upgrade. Its great at keeping the outside out, and tall enough to stand in and be very comfortable. Its also very durable and stable in high wind loads.

Yeah I love mine. Problem is my kids are off to college and setting up the 10x14 for just me is not gonna happen unless I decide to go homeless in Kalifornia. I now sleep in the 4. The Kodiak is just a great tent and it will hard to not camp in a canvas tent from here on out. I need to sell mine which is a bummer cuz it's barely been used.

Man, you've got great taste in tents!

I have these two and strongly recommend them as well. The Trango 2, being a 4-season mountaineering tent, is virtually indestructible. I've had mine with no issues for 15 years. It's a little heavy to carry when backpacking, but I've grown attached to it.

The Halo 6 is perfect for my family of 5. I was dead set on an REI Kîngdom 6 until I read that you basically have to purchase the garage if you want rain protection on all sides of the tent. Seemed like a sneaky way to get people to purchase an expensive accessory. Then I found the Halo 6 on sale, and I've been really happy with it ever since. It's tall and roomy and has excellent ventilation.

3 person Coleman instant tent because I can set it up in less than 5 minutes. I usually don't sleep in it though. I use it to store all the stuff I brought so I can sleep in the back of the 4Runner.

I kind of want to replace it with a skydome, but they're a bit more than $30. Ha.

L. L. Bean Mountain Light 3

It is a great rugged tent! It stays dry in the nastiest weather. It is lightweight enough for moderate backpacking and roomy enough for 2 adults and gear comfortably. You could cram 3 in there but it would be a bit tight. I have had it for quite a few years. I have zero complaints!

No current pictures but a North Face VE25 4 season expedition tent. It gets chilly in VT in the winter. This has served us well for many many years and is bomb proof.

Yea, I've heard they are junk. Mine is 20 years old, I've never gotten wet in it.

I have a 15 year old Coleman that takes a solid 30 minutes to put together but it's roomy and I just can't bring myself to spend $300 on a new tent even though I know I should just bit the bullet.
