TEP/TRDOP: Buy used or new?

For real... Buy new. It's so close there's no question. Then you will know the history of the T4R from the get go. New is the better option in your scenario!

Buy new. That's what I did. I have the Trail with KDSS. (Not premium) I just got a brand new '16 for 35.6k I'd try to see if there's any '16s still around in your area.

I'd also say go new. These vehicles hold value so well that you might as well start with a clean slate for the little bit of extra money.

KDSS also is worth it in my opinion .

Hey folks,

I'm looking for some advice on an upcoming transaction. After about a 10 year hiatus from 4Runners, I'll be trading my '15 Yukon which is coming up on the 36K mile warranty expiration and has already had several issues.

I've already put down a deposit on a white '17 TRD-Off Road Premium with KDSS, but saw a used white '14 Trail Premium without KDSS listed yesterday. Check out the breakdown below...

'17 TRDOP w/ KDSS - $40,000 sale price, $48,000 trade allowance
*Also have the ability to roll Toytec lift, wheels/tires etc into the note through the dealership

'14 Trail Premium, no KDSS (~38,000 miles) - $35,000 sale price, $50,000 trade allowance
*Upgrades/mods would all be out of pocket

Are the KDSS, warranty and dealership upgrades worth the extra dough? Am I missing any other differences from the '14 - '17 models?

Of course, if you can afford a new car, it is better to buy it as you won't have any problems with it, for sure. In general, I prefer buying new cars because I know that I'm the first owner I can't say the same about jewelry, I bought several things (cheap chains, bracelet) and was pleased with the result, and the price was reasonable. But if I were a woman, I would turn on its ear

I just bought a 16 TEP with 18k on the odo. for $35k. Has Nav and moonroof, no KDSS. I was going to go new, but with the couple of grand difference that I was going to put down on a new one, I bought used and immediately bought TRD pro wheels, KO2s, weathertechs, canvasback covers, and diff breather kit.

I had a similar dilemma. Started looking for a '13-'15 4Runner Trail Premium. I live in Arizona and in my area the used ones were going to be $36k-$38k with 25,000-45,000 miles on them. I decided that it wasn't worth it and special ordered a 2016 Trail Premium w/ KDSS from my local dealer. Had to have mine built at the factory with the sliding rear cargo deck which was missing in my dealer region. Ended up paying $39,500 to get exactly what I wanted. Factor in the factory warranty and first 2yrs/25,000 mile maintenance and the extra few grand seems like cheap peace of mind.

Go new it's worth it.

I bought a 2014 TEP with above average miles (who cares, it's a Toyota) from a private seller for well under $30k. I flew out to get it and it was super clean; very happy with my decision. Deals are out there to be had if you do your research and are patient. Now I have a bunch of extra cash for the upgrades!

When I purchased my last 4Runner, pricing on new and used were nearly indistinguishable, so I went new. You are starting to be able to get good deals on the 2014-2015 models.

I would go new. Be careful about getting aftermarket mods done at the dealer. Not that they don't know what they are doing but because of the prices they charge. They told me they would tint my front window for only $300 and put Heftyfab rock sliders on for $2000. I got the windows done for less than half that and the HF sliders for a third.
