Just bought a 1997 and when I turn on the ventilation system something smells dead in there. My Tacoma (2008) has a filter and access to the air intake however i don't see anything like that in the manual or searching the subject. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a dead mouse somewhere.

Yeah, that is relatively common, a mouse crawls into the engine or air ducting, then dies.
I even saw one guy that fired her up, had a mouse in his air system that got sucked into the fan, got shredded, and it blew mouse chunks throughout the entire air ducting system. There are pics of that on one of the forums somewhere, I am guessing yotatech. It was nasty.

Yup, ive seen that before. When I used to be an auto mechanic, I had to clean several vehicles out that had dead mice chewed up in the fan!! Not fun at all!!!

I've been told by several techs that the wiring insulation for many mid-90's to early 2000 vehicles has a primary ingredient of peanut oil.
I stuff neighborhood cats in my engine bay each time I go out for a drive to prevent this from happening. :hungry:
