Terrible window fogging

Whenever it is cold out, my windows fog like crazy. It's all the defroster can do to keep the windshield clear and the sides still fog 'til I can't see out of them. I've tried Rain-X antifog stuff and it didn't do squat. Any suggestions?

^^ Yup. Make sure your air selector is on outside air instead of recirculate, and hit the AC button. I'm betting you've got the air selector on recirculate.

When you set the control do "Defrost" it doesn't matter which position you have the selector in, it automatically defaults to outside air. Try it, you will see that it switches on it's on. At least I'm pretty sure it does. Mine stays on recirculate all the time time and I never have a problem with fogging.

Maybe on digital control, not on my manual.

Do you smoke?, I found when I smoked in the car, it fogged up 5x as bad now that i dont, ecig still leaves a little shit on the window, but near as bad

Ofcourse you have to do atleast 2 or more coats for it to take full effect. On the contrary, I tried this product without the use of the heating system just too see, and it worked like charm even on inclement weather so I trust Rain-x. By no means am I trying to promote this product, just saying it works if properly used.

Do you have the side heater vents directed to the windows with the heat set just to the windshield?

You are in VA and the original poster is in CO. Big difference in temperature between these two states.

Mist is due to excess moisture getting condensed when it touches a colder surface as the glass. IF you get out side air (less moisture than inside your car) works or hit the AC button once in a while. AC removes moisture too.

I keep my front side vents focused to the door glass so I can see the mirrors.
 
They have wipes for ski/snowboarding goggles that work really well at preventing fogging, you would have to make sure no one touched the glass but it makes a very noticeable difference when skiing. REI has them.
Also in my experience liquid products that I have used to prevent fogging on optical equipment have not yielded great results. I have never tried Rain-X.
I also believe the cloth/ paper used to clean a window make a big difference, I have had very poor results using Micro fiber cloth

PS: My heated Mirrors are the best thing learned I had from this site, they are awesome!

Thanks for all the input. I don't smoke, so that's out. I have only applied the Rain-X once, so I'll give it another application or two. And I know I have the air source set on recirculate, so I'll change to outside air and see if that helps. I know the A/C comes on automatically when I go to defrost alone, but when I split defrost plus lower vents, the light turns off.

Also, the drivers side vent supply must have fallen off or something. No air comes out of the vent, but my keys get hot as hell, as does the dash around the ignition. How bad is it to get behind the dash in that area?\

And it really has been cold here this winter. Not one day above freezing in 34 days straight. Usually we are in the high 30's to low 40's most of the winter. Totally sucks.

That'll fix your issue.

The A/C is there to meet the dew point of the air and dehumidfy it. Then it heats it back up so there isn't humid air being put on your windscreen and fogging.

Always keep it on fresh if you can.
 
Bumping a OLD thread but thought this video was interesting.
The issue I have using the AC/Defrost - I switch back and fourth between Def and heater every min. I dont know if it was in this thread or another, like someone else said, my gen5 T4R fogs more than any vehicle Ive owned.
