Was under the hood of my '97 3.4 doing routine inspection and I took a close look at the plug wires.
Much to my surprise, they were dated with a 97 so I assume they are original.

I've never noticed any missing/misfires or indications they need changing even in damp weather but I have yet to have a look on a damp night to see if there is any visible arcing.

I think this spring I'm going to do a complete top end cleaning /maintenance including plug and wire change, valve cover gaskets etc. but I don't think I'll get another 17 yrs/ 195,000 km out of a replacement set.

Yep, factory Sumitomo plug wires had the year on the wire insulation. The dealers are selling them again, after only having Densos for years.

Mine still has the originals from 2000. Not normally something I would like brag about, and could potentially be costing me MPG, but they seem to work still. I have a set of NGK wires sitting in the back though that will be going on soon.

I still have my original set that works fine. Toyota service manual has the specs. on checking the ohm rating for the wires. I checked mine and all is well.

I replaced my OEM's with NGK.
Just a waste of money is what I think now!

Don't throw out your old wires. You will probably need them again in about a year if prior experiences I've had hold true.

Yep..ignition wires and batteries. I never seem to find replacements that last like the originals.

The NGK's are decent wires. I now have 80k+ on mine.

So, for someone who is looking to replace both plugs and wires within the next couple months...would you go with the Sumitomos now that they are available again?
