So..still waiting to pick up the new beast, which I'm exicited about, but not the reponse I got back from Toyota Canada regarding Entune in Canada. It's a non-reponse. :bash: I simply asked why is Entune not offered to Canadians. So..here it is:

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

Thank you for your recent email.

We would like to inform you that the Entune system is not available in Canada and there are currently no plans to introduce this system in Canada. We would also like to add that your vehicle cannot be modified for Entune. Toyota Canada has introduced Toyota Display Audio product, which shares some of the same features as Entune for the Canadian market.

With regard to the options available, such as Toyota Display Audio, market trends in Canada are closely studied to give us a better idea of what options are in demand. Then based on our findings, our Product Planning department is able to choose those options that best suit the needs of the buying public in Canada. We recognize, of course, that these choices may not meet the needs and fulfill the desires of all potential customers. However, we have noted your comments and have forwarded them to our Product Planning department for their information and future consideration.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

XXXX XXXXX

So..Canadians don't want all the same features as our US brothers and sisters? What the @#%$ ??

Just curious - what sort of answer would have made you happy? You already knew it wasn't available, so "why" really doesn't matter, does it?

The TOP TEN Reasons Why Toyota Does Not Put Entune in CDN 4Rs:

1. We can't produce enough, and we like the USA better.
2. We don't feel Canadians are smart enough to use it.
3. This feature has proven unreliable in the GWN climate.
4. Actually, it is available, but your credit rating was too low, and we decided you cannot afford it.
5. There is no French interface at this time, so most of you couldn't use it anyway.
6. The Queen said she didn't like it.
7. The CDN Dollar is too devalued vs the Yen.
8. Eh?
9.
10.

Dang! I'm out. Little help?

Although I was knew it was not available upon purchase, my dealership thought that the 4 runner would be upgradable and Toyota Canada would supply it to Canadians soon. They suggested contacting them and as more customers do this, it would become available. My expectation was that hopefully it would be given to dealerships as an add on 'after the fact' and I could get it.

I'm not sure how to respond to your "Top Ten". You got something against Canadians? I'd love to hear it.

I read it as Entune requires a data plan which is way too expensive in Canada and for majority of 4Runner buyers Entune would be just a thing they would never use.
On the positive side our SR5 is nicer than US ones.

LOL, CDN dollar is at par with US dollar now, other reasons could be true : )

Agreed Scanny re: data plan. I'm a bit of a tech guy so I would use. I may be a small minority- I know that. That said, a lot of provinces are giving out mucho data or unlimited as part of the wireless plan so that argument may not be an issue any longer.

For the most part a very copy and paste response from Toyota. Ask them about a diesel option and they tell you that their research indicated there is zero demand for diesel. Who are they asking? I have responded to a number of their questionnaires and they never ask about diesel options. I do add into the addition comments section.

The only options Toyota Canada offers are trim level and color.

A couple of the apps - iHeart Radio and Pandora - aren't licensed in Canada because of the CRIA. Our data plans are also a lot more expensive than in the states, so it might be prohibitively expensive. Who cares anyhow? Nothing on Entune that you can't do better on a smart phone or 3G tablet. Between my iPad and Galaxy Nexus I can listen to any music I want, get better navigation, and do a million other things.

Since Ottawa keeps a very tight hold on commercial transmissions it might be that it isn't worth the cost for Toyota to get Ottawa to allow eTune to be used in Canada.

No Entune in Canada- my latest email exchange follows. Perhaps the fact that the Product Planning department "is not accessible to interact with" explains why this feature is not available up in in The Great White North

Thank you again for your correspondence.
We would like to advise we have documented your concerns and have forwarded them to the Product Planning department for future consideration. We do apologize but the Product Planning department being an internal department is not accessible to interact with.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter. I would be more than happy
to discuss this with someone from the
#Product Planning department if they are interested in the post purchase
experience of a long term Toyota customer.

It would seem to me that the Product Planning department is following a
strange path if they are recommending that features already installed and
available that enhance the technology available and are installed in the US
would not be available in the Canada were trends follow those in the US
very closely. My son recently purchased a 2012 Infiniti that has features
similar to Entune installed. Even GM with On-Star offers features in
Canada that are similar to those in Canada. In part my interest was fueled
by a desire to install a navigation app because the one on my 4Runner is
rather inferior for 2016. My 5 year old $200 Garmin is far superior to that
which Toyota had installed as a Nav system. As a loyal Toyota customer
since 1987 I am sorry to see Toyota losing the technology race based on the
dubious notion that Canadians will settle for less and inferior technology.

Please refer to the second part of my message requesting information on why
it is not available. Pretty sure I paid as much or more than a comparable
vehicle in the US.

Thank you for your recent correspondence.
We kindly would like to advise that Entune is strictly a USA product not
available in Canada; and Toyota Canada at the present time does not have
any plans to make it available.
We hope this information is helpful and thank you for taking the time to
write.

Are there any plans to make Entune available in Canada? I was very
disappointed to find out that my 2016 4Runner limited was unable to access
this feature. Many pages back in the manual I found this information. If
there are no plans perhaps you could explain why it is not available on a
new $55,000 supposedly top of the line vehicle.

Entune isn't exactly a juggernaut of a system. If you're tech savvy, you'll be able to find alternatives that are much more capable and efficient.

A more "customer friendly" response from a Toyota Canada dealership about Entune availability.

Is Toyota Entune available in Canada for 2015?

Is Entune Available in Canada for 2015?

"One of the best parts about getting a new car is to play with all of the new gadgets and features, but if you are buying a Toyota in Canada, you will have probably noticed by now that Entune is not an option. But why, you ask? Even this year, is Toyota Entune available in Canada for 2015?

Unfortunately, Toyota drivers in Canada will not be able to take part in any of the Toyota Entune upgrades or new features because Entune is not yet available here.

Crazy, right? Why wouldn’t we be able to get one of Toyota’s most prized, sophisticated, life-changing, innovative features? Unfortunately, we’ve heard it may have something to do with the Entune system not being compatible with cell phone carriers and reception in Canada, as this is a system that relies completely on a smartphone device and if that device can not be synced or is not compatible with Entune, it cannot perform all of the fun functions the infotainment system is meant for.

Even if you aren’t able to take advantage of all of Toyota Entune’s features for 2015, such as a streamlined, more responsive touch and voice recognition system, there are still a few things that Toyota vehicles offer as far as entertainment that could be considered high-tech.

For example, drivers can still take advantage of Toyota’s advanced audio system that comes with Driver EasySpeak and a touch-screen display.

Toyota EasySpeak is a pretty nifty feature to have, though, even if you don’t have Entune, because the system offers a hands-free microphone that is installed in the overhead console so passengers in the back of the vehicle can hear those in the front through the speaker system.

The center stack-mounted display, which is not to be confused with Toyota Entune itself, includes Bluetooth capabilities, an AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA player, an auxiliary input jack, USB audio input, voice recognition and SiriusXM satellite radio."

That's somebody who takes pride in their job, respect.

Since there have been numerous issues with entune and it's updates over the years; perhaps you're better without it.

What's the feature that displays cover-art for whatever you are listening to via BT?

You're definitely better off without that, it thinks Audible is urban music so I drive around with salt-n-pepa on the screen

I don't buy the excuse about our cell phone carriers. dollars to donuts its because Entune isn't available in french yet. Quebec ruins everything.
