The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Disappointed...

Just installed my sc earlier this week. I was super happy and felt the instant effects compared to stock. No fuel mods or urd kit yet....

i got beat by an older stock 1st gen taco. Probably same motor but much lighter plus i got bigger tires and a lift but still though...now i want the pulley and 7th haha.

The guy even flashed his hazards as a sign of victory...smh

Welcome to the world of acceleration...... money flying right out of your wallet. Boost is a wonderful thing.

All depends on your driving style. If you are as lead-footed as I am then get those fuel mods done ASAP. Otherwise buy that lottery ticket and prepare to spend it all chasing those extra ponies!
What are you geared at? Big tires and tall gears will mess up your fun. I’ll say I’m running a 297/70/17 with a Toyo MT that are super heavy, but I have 4.56 gears so it is still spry.

Bigger tires need different gear ratios. You'll see more acceleration off the line with the right gears than you would with adding more fuel/boost.

Yea i was actually looking into 4.88 gears . Im only running 275/70s. Not quite 33" but are e rated tires so heavy none the less but i still would like to get the urd kit and pully to eliminate pinging. Havent ran into any problems yet though.

Ive actully learned to drive moderate with 3rd gens. I know theyre not fast so i dont really try compared to my Old turboed cars. Its been fun just being able to step on the throttle and get that instant boost haha. Definitely cost to make it go faster...

Only running 275/70s with i believe 4.10 gears. Gotta check the actully ratio.

For a time I had the 3.0L on the 2nd Gens and 4.56 gears on undersized (roughly 29") tires. You'd be surprised how quick it was off a start, but once I hit 20 mph that advantage was quickly lost due to the sluggishness of that motor lol.

Gears really do make a difference. The auto gear ratios kinda suck (5-speeds are better) so if I ever get larger than stock tires I'm gonna re-gear or do a 5-speed swap.

So I've been loving the power from the new supercharger, but have a couple new issues and a few questions.
I started throwing a knock sensor code and after a little reading I ordered a new sensor harness and two new denso sensors.

The other issue I'm having is terrible mpg. Is 14-15 mpg to be expected? Even when I'm driving nice and easy I can watch my gas gauge drop lol.
With about 230k on the clock and seeing erratic AFR numbers, I've been thinking about having my injectors cleaned/replaced and am not sure what to throw back in there.
My 4runner is a 96 and I noticed that there was an injector change in 99 I think. Is there an advantage one way or another as to which ones to get? Or different injectors all together?
My plans for the truck are the AEM fic6 piggyback instead of the urd 7th and thinking about the 2.2 pulley, nothing too extreme.

Knock sensors. Your probably knocking. I replaced mine and still knocking. It always happens under 2300 rpm on a good load.

Has anyone with a supercharger done a Level 10 bullet proof rebuild on their transmission? My transmission was pretty abused by the PO and I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the Level 10 bullet proof rebuild this tax season. I am just hoping someone else has done this to confirm I am making the right decision.

They just had a huge write up in Toyota Owners's Magazine on cleaning injectors. They used a place called Dr injector out in California. They were making it sound like this makes a huge difference...especially on a set with your kind of milage! Cost was resonable $25ish pre injector

That being said...if you're going the AEM piggyback route...I'd just go with a new set of larger injectors! Baby step up to 310cc or go crazy with 500+ ones! I'm interested in what you decide...so keep us posted :spy:

Thanks!!

This is for everybody with a charger.. When cruising, what does the. Boost gauge show?

Cruising would be at 55 with the cruise control on flat land?

It knocked a bit after I first installed the s/c, but never threw a code. My cel is coming on while cruising down the hwy with cruise on and randomly. Truck came from the desert so its not hard for me to rule out wiring lol.
